The place is in itself very nice and culturally very relevant .. unfortunately it is teeming with Instagrammers and “influencers”. People don't respect the culture or the signs.. go to areas that are just for praying to take photos with tripods...
Absolutely bad experience, wouldn't recommend that as long as the rules are strictly implemented on site ..

We unfortunately did not have access as a ceremony was underway. Our driver told us that the temple has a holy water spring which is used for sacred rites and purifying bathing for funeral ceremonies. He explained that the water enters the pool via a series of waterspouts and visitors are welcomed when there are no ceremonies being held. The exterior architecture and construction is very similar to other temples visited in Bali.

We were in Bali in the off season so the temple wasn't overrun with tourists. Walked around, talked to people, and then decided to do the cleansing ritual. You can absolutely go it the water for free, but we opted to get some information from one of the many "guides" there so we knew the backstory behind the temple, practice of Hinduism, and cleansing ritual. We pay a small amount to rent the special water ritual robe. Our ritual leader was great! He sat with us and told us all about Hinduism, the temple, and the cleansing ritual- we literally had over a 1/2 hour class. After that he took us to the spring and gave us more instructions on what to do. Worth the money and glad I did it!

THIS TEMPLE is NOT in SANUR!!! do not be mislead, we went out to see this water temple only to find out that it was a small temple, DRY AS A BONE, unattended and not meant for tourist but for locals. It’s also pretty much in the middle of nowhere. THE TEMPLE MENTIONED AND SHOW IN THE PICTURES IS ACTUALLY IN UBUD, so we are looking forward to visiting it later in our travels. So SAFE YOURSELF THE TRIP IF YOU THINK ITS IT’S 3 km from SANUR, IT IS NOT.

Good to do the purification ceremony on the pool however be prepared for smelly and dirty changing room. The best place to put fresh clothes on is alongside your own locker and using a towel for provacy

The temple's architecture is beautiful. Everything was perfect during my visit here except for the shop lots. To exit the temple, you will be guided by the local here through the shop lots. You will need to be carefull as the shopkeepers here will keep luring you with the cheap price of the goods and souvenirs that they sell. Not only that, some of them would also keep pulling you into their shop (and it was hard to get away from them). They would mention that their good is as low as 1 dollar for a t-shirt. But as soon as you enter the shop, that 1 dollar price was just a bs. A single package of keychains which contains four of them would cost you about 10 usd (100000 rupiah). You can get the same keychain at Agung Bali for only 13000 rupiah (do the money change on yr own). Not only that(yeah, theres more), they would also threw some t-shirt on you and hold your wrist in case of you avoiding them. Yeah thats it. How comes this people have this kind of behavior at temple. Arent they shame of doing something wrong in the place of their god. Oh world.

The Tirta Empul temple is a unique place offering cleansing and heallng, it is worth visiting, and certain areas tend to be crowded. We were fortunate to visit on a day that was not auspicious, and it still seemed crowded. We have no idea how many visitors were seeking healing and how many were tourists like us.
The water at Tirta Empul temple comes from a freshwater spring said to be located where the god Indra threw his spear into the ground, making it a holy place. Water from the spring is sold in containers like water from other holy places such as the well of Zamzam or Lourdes Water, and drinking or bathing in the water is believed to bestow cleansing or restorative benefits like bathing in Rajastan's Pushkar Lake, the Biblical pool of Bethesda, or the Ganges River. The benefits are believed to be especially strong at auspicious hours. At Tirta Empul temple the most auspicious hour for bathing is said to be just before midnight.
Healing is supposed to take place after praying, making offerings, and performing rituals at the proper spigot of water. Different spigots are identified as healing different ailments. Foreigners pay Rp. 50,000 per head to enter, and Indonesians pay Rp. 30,000. For this fee you get the free use of a sarong which you have to return when you leave. If we go again, we would bring our own sarongs because the ones lent to us smelled pretty bad. If you intend to go into the water, you have to rent another kind of sarong.
So many people visit the temple that there is a large souvenir market next to the parking lot.

one of the beautiful temple visited in bali,Tirta Empul is an important temple complex and holy mountain spring, located in the village of Manukaya in central Bali. Tirta Empul Temple was founded around a large water spring in 962 A.D. during the Warmadewa dynasty which ruled Bali during 10th-14th centuries. The name of the temple comes from the ground water source named "Tirta Empul".
The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, another Hindu god name for the supreme consciousness Narayana.
At the entrance they provide the sarong for free if you want to have a view around, and if you want to do the rituals a green color sarong is provided for 10000 IDR.
I would have loved to do the ritual, but due to the time to catch my flight i was not able. for sure during my next visit i will make sure to take part of the ritual if permitted.
The temple complex has a huge Koi Fish pond on the other side of the ritual part and another complex of temples and huge lake pond from which is the source of fresh water for the ritual process.
Definitely need to visit when in Bali

This complex is a very interesting and unique place to visit. Fed by a natural spring, the holy water provides a very important ritual cleansing, so I am told. I did not want to foul up the place with my sordid soul, but it was very enlightening to watch the Balinese patiently queuing up in the pool, waiting for their chance to get to the fountains.
There were a few obvious tourists that were taking up way too much of the pool/fountain area, despite the fact that they were clearly only interested in capturing the moment for Instagram. There is plenty of room to walk around the pool for viewing and photos, so no need to jump in the water act like an ugly tourist. I definitely think this place is a must-see attraction, but please stay out of the way of the people who come here out of reverence. It is really tacky to pretend you are one of them while you take up 100x more space in the water as they steer clear of you.
Apparently, this is the place to go during full moons, as it is wall to wall people in the water.
