    Just a photo stop
This is just a few minutes drive from the Ulun Danu Beratan temple and is just a photo stop on the way. Our driver had taken us inside the Golf resort initially but brought us back and was kind enough to take photos for us here. Given the hype this has acquired, there would almost always be quite a few people around here. Wouldn't recommend this as a must visit but a few minutes here won't harm due to the proximity to Ulun Danu Beratan.

    When Instagram is not Reality
As a standalone sight, this place is just not worth ur time and money. This gate pales in comparison to the Gate of Heaven, and hence, visitors should temper down their expectations. Instagram and reality are different in this case. The waiting time for the pics need to be accounted for while tourists plan their trip. There is a friendly staff who will offer to take pics with a reflector glass for a "Donation". While the effort is appreciated, tourists should first check the pics before paying him. In short, this place is recommended only as a stop over while on tours to Sekumpul or Ulan Danu temple, else it is best avoided.

If you are influencer or public profile on Instagram this is a good visit
The Handara Gate in Bali is undeniably stunning, serving as a picturesque Instagram spot. However, its appeal largely rests on aesthetics alone, with little historical or contextual information provided. Visitors often endure long queues just for that perfect snapshot, detracting from the overall experience. If you're seeking cultural depth, this may not be the ideal stop, but for those chasing Instagram-worthy moments, it's worth the wait.

Having traveled extensively in Indonesia over the last 41 years I can honestly say this is the least value for money. We paid 50,000 each just to go close to the gate and take a photo, but you might have to wait and in line for over an hour to click your camera. Little did we know that there is a similar gate at the nearby temple, and all over Bali too. Save your money and give this place a miss. Much better value at the nearby temple which costs 75,000 and there is much to keep you occupied for an hour or more.

Absolutely the worst tourist attraction ever. The local mafia has taken over and have created a money making machine that has ended up spoiling the experience for everyone.

The Handara gate is probably one of the biggest ones, but there are hundreds of other beautiful gates in all the temples dotted around Bali. Those are much more picturesque.

As for the Handara gate, take a picture from the distance and keep moving. If you buy a ticket, you’re wasting precious time. The ticket system has ended up creating an unnecessary queue that serves nothing. Instead it takes up to 2 hours of your time. Added to that, the person taking the pictures (using your phone) has to be paid! And finally the parking guy has to be paid!

Avoid at all costs

Waste of time and money.
It is an entrace to golf course and the ticket you purchase is for selfie in front of the gate.
Selfie ticket per person costs 50000IDR and if you take a service from them to click your picture using your own mobile , they charge additional 10000IDR(no ticket provided) per person.

We just wanted to make a photo, only the gate, not with us, they sent us away, because we have to pay for it.. for entering a street, where is nothing else just this gate on an open road.. wtf??? And the stuff there is extremely rude, double shame. I don't mind if someone wants a picture, wants to wait, but you cannot stand on a road and make a picture? That is embarrassing and ridiculous .

the most famous split gateway (or candi bentar) is probably the gate of heavens located at pura lempuyang. it was made popular by an instagrammer who created the image using a piece of mirror for reflection effects. that gate is unique because it has mount agung as the backdrop.

pura lempuyang, however, is located very far from most places in bali, and often have lines lasting for hours just for that perfect shot. is it really worth it? only you can decide

note, however, this type of split gateway to a temple is a classic entrance at many religious compounds in bali and also java islands. so you can theoretically take your iconic instagram photo at many places, not just at pura lempuyang. one example is at the handara gate, which serves as an entry point to a golf course.

handara gate is situated about 5 min drive away from ulun danu beratan temple, and so it is a quick pit stop if this interests you. there are staff at the site who will help you and your traveling party take photo.
