Traditional and modern Ubud style paintings, naive style, modern, natural style. The employees and gallery owners are friendly and polite. Come and visit the Muji Art Gallery and have a collection to add to the beauty and artistic value of your residence

On our recent trip to Bali, we were shopping for a painting for our living room which we've just remodeled mixing modern and Asian styles. We started with visiting Neka Museum, which does not sell the paintings but provides a good introduction to the styles of Balinese art. Then, we visited several galleries that were recommended in various travel books. Because of the popularity of the local art, there is a sea of cheap and poorly made art even in reputable galleries, which, taken into account the demand, is, actually, quite understandable and expected. This made the hunt for a good painting more challenging, but also more interesting. In various galleries, we've seen very good samples of Balinese traditional styles, but because of the mixed style of our living room, we were looking for something that is modern in style yet unmistakably Balinese. This kind of art is well developed on Bali due to the influences of various talented Western artists who lived and worked on Bali in 20th century.
Finally, we found what we were looking for at Muji Art Family gallery. I decided to post a review on this gallery because it has not been mentioned in any of the travel books or reviews I've read preparing for the trip. It's located in Batuan Village, south of Ubud. We almost lost hope when were taken there by our driver Made Wijaya, who, ones again, proved to be indispensable in solving every little problem we had on Bali (see my separate posting on Made in Forums). It turned out to be a rather large gallery, well organized, and with a wide variety of different style works. The building itself has an interesting architecture (it was built by the artist's family). When we were there, there were very few visitors. Here, we found not one but a few pieces that we liked. The painting we eventually chose was an impressionist style work by artist Dwi Sukmanto. We got info on the artist along with the painting. Since we did not like the frame, the gallery removed the painting and wrapped it securely in a roll for us, ready for the long trip home. Needless to say, we did not pay the price they first asked. I think, on Bali, it's almost expected that you would pay only 25-50% of the asked price.
Overall, our visit to Muji Art Family gallery was a very pleasant one.

Lovely selection of artwork. We ended up purchasing two traditional Balinese paintings and were greeted by excellent service and great prices. Highly recommend this place.

I was brought to this gallery by my local driver and I agree with the first review below “Good quality and variety of Balinese paintings” by grib from Rockville.
The paintings displayed and sold here are of real authentic quality. There are paintings sold at many other places which either lasted only a few months, or it 'breaks' during shipping back to your country, or it deteriorate when it got in contact with water. Real paintings does not have any of such problems.
Basically, the paintings here are all done by the local painters (there are a few of them painting at different areas of the building). The gallery is 2 floors, and the display area is rather huge. There are scenery paintings, abstract paintings, portrait paintings and so on.
If you are interested to buy, be sure to negotiate a lot as the prices are marked up several times up.

Attentive assistance but not pushy. We bought some lovely to take home. Also they have Master Artist’s upstairs, if you’re looking for something special.

My husband and I asked our tour guide where we could find authentic paintings, and he did not disappoint bringing us here. The studio is family owned and filled with thousands of paintings from different family members. We spent several hours walking through each room and deciding what we’d want to bring home. We finally settled on a few traditional Balinese paintings. They sold them to us with the frames...even swapped out one of the frames I didn’t like very much...and wrapped them up so nicely with bubble wrap, writing “fragile” on the outside just in case. Great experience from start to finish! And great art!!

We went there during our vacation in bali.
Found good quality paintings and bought two paintings. This is a property owned and run by a family.
Very approachable and explained various paintings to us and the types, etc
Also bubble wrapped the paintings for international checkin.
Overall a pleasant experience.

I visited Bali on my own for 10 days and during one of my tours, stopped by the gallery at the end as my driver knew I was interested in possibly purchasing some artwork during the trip. I was greeted immediately and welcomed into the gallery where I discovered various mediums and gorgeous pieces of art. After looking at several possibilities, I settled on two pieces from local painters which were absolutely gorgeous (photos attached for example of their studio’s amazing paintings). This gallery is well worth a visit but also because they are dedicated to their clients, their painters and to upholding a high quality standard for what they display in their gallery.
The final morning I was to depart for the airport, circumstances occurred that I needed my artwork rewrapped (because I had foolishly unwrapped it hoping it would fit in my suitcase) - the whole gallery team came out immediately that morning to re-package my artwork just to insure it was safe for the journey!! What dedication to their client, to the art and to their reputation!!! I still cannot get over it!!
I could not more highly recommend this family and their gallery. I will forever think of Bali fondly, especially when I see my gorgeous paintings as they grace my home :)

We asked our local driver to take us to a quality art gallery. He took us to the nearest one, but we were disappointed, and told him that we were looking for something exclusive and were ready to pay for it.
The drive from Nusa Dua was long, maybe an hour. We got stuck at the rice fields for a bit.
In the end, it was well worth it. We bought amazing artwork for our home, four pieces total. Everyone who ever sees these paintings is amazed and asks where we got them. Very fine craftsmanship and much attention to detail. It was a pleasure chatting with the owner. They took special care to pack our purchases to ensure they got home safe with us.
Tip: try to get there early because it's balinese tradition to give the first customer of the day the discount they ask for ;)

We visited this gallery thanks to our guide after trying to find fine art for days in the UBUD area, if you are looking for nice fine art, this is the place to go, forget about market or the commercial painting shop you can find on the street, which have nothing special.
At muji Family, you 'll find signed art and if you go on the first floor you'll have the chance to discover the best Indonesian painter, it cost but it is so worth it.
We bought a Made Kedol fine Paint and receive it in London before we've arrived, they organised everything for us, from safely packing to tracked shipping with DHL.
If you have desire to bring something special from this beautiful island go there, discuss the price I'd say 30% less than the price they'll tell you, it is funny to do though!
