art centre or taman budaya, is one of place that is dedicated to preserve the balinese culture, we can go there to watch art performance every June to July, Bali art festival or PKB usually held in this place, you can watch many kinds of performances such as balinese dances, balinese song, art and craft exhibition, as well as traditional food. I usually visit this place everytime they held PKB, actually we also can visit this place in the other month to enjoy the balinese architecture, as well as visit the museum, but there is no art performance.

While the grounds are impressive, public toilets here are not always maintained or accessible. Best visit this center when it is in full swing of the Bali Arts Festival, during which you can see some of the best performances in Bali staged here for the benefit of the local people. Good luck finding a seat, but rest assured that if you press forward, locals tend to be amenable to allowing guests to get into the VIP seating near the front.

I visited the Denpasar Art Centre in June 2010 during the Art Festival and was more than delighted to find this beautiful building set in its gardens in the middle of a busy Denpasar.
The interior of the museum features a varied display of Balinese art such as classical and modern paintings, some amazing wooden sculptures, Barongs, Ragas, headdresses and costumes of dancers and other beautiful crafts.
The Art Festival took place outside the building and offered so much to see and enjoy and also to buy.
Very relaxed, colourful and genuine Balinese - not touristy! Thoroughly e the visit!

It is quite impressive especially knowing that it was built back in 1973. It represents all the best out of Balinese artistic heritage plus a massive amphitheatre where art performances as well as modern entertainments are performed. It is a bit far away from popular tourist centers so the best is to hire a car or a cab. Unfortunately as many other establishments in Bali, maintenance is rather poor. Rubbish everywhere, people burns collected rubbish in noticable spot. Huge pond in its front yard is now also dried out and full of rubbish. The lotus pond surrounding the main stage of the amphitheatre is also dirty.

Difficult access through very busy traffic in Denpasar, no real parking area close to the venue, no spectacular or interesting shows, bad quality of the buildings, VERY poor sanitary facilities, and OF COURSE many hang-around locals trying to sell you lots of stuff you don't need.

I went to Werdhi Budaya Art Center for the art festival last Saturday. The exhibition building is said to close at 3:00 pm, but sadly I was asked to be out at 2:40 by the guard. Full of local people enjoying their time, it is a quite nice place. I watched two performances, one at 5:00 pm (more amateur), and the other at 7:30 pm (more professional). They were nice, only all the introductions are in Indonesian, and I didn't understand a word. I walked around the center, and found all information is also in Indonesian. What a pity!

While it looks like a forgotten place in a normal day, Art Center becomes alive between June and July with the Popular Bali Art Festivals that attract thousands of people to come every day to see dance competitions, musical performances, art exhibitions, culinary experiences and trendy fashion shops. Don't miss Art Center if you come to Bali between June 13-July 12 in your agenda. Here you will find a gay local atmosphere!

Visit during the annual Denpasar arts festival, which lasts for one-and-a-half months. It is happening now. There are many many cultural performances each day at the various open stages and auditoriums. There are crowds of local people every day. However, note that this is primarily local Balinese culture for a local Balinese audience. Dramatic performances have lots and lots of dialogue - in Balinese language of course, though somtimes they switch to Indonesian for a few lines for the sake of the non-Balinese Indonesians in the audience. Unlike performances put up for tourists, a performance is not an aggregate of different things mixed in but it is 3 hours of one story told in several scenes mixed with comic reliefs, etc. If you can appreciate this, you will get non-stop quality performances whole day and night, every day. There are also modern quality concerts by artists from all over Indonesia and also overseas. There is no entrance fee. Food stalls of mainly Balinese food feed the crowds throughout the day. As with anywhere in Indonesia with large crowds, this place at this time of year has a dirty and messy feel.

A must visit in Denpasar! The area is beautiful and rich with Balinese culture. On weekends, you can see school kids rehearsing traditional Balinese dance and many local couples taking pre wedding photoshoot. The place is gorgeous with its people and culture and tradition.
