Vachcharaj Ghat is also known as Jain Ghat. This ghat is very special for Jains and Jainism began to blossom there around 6th century BCE along with Buddhism. Vachcharaj was a Jain banker and he contributed so much to established Banaras (Varanasi) as a center for trade. He built this Ghat in the 19th century and this named after him. Above the stairs, there is a narrow place is the birth place for Suparshvanth, who was the Seventh (The 24th Tirthankar was Mahavira, who lived in 6th Century BCE and a contemporary of Lord Buddha)Tirthankar (Tirthankars were Jain’s Spiritual Leaders, also called Jinas or Victorious once) for the Jains. Just above the wall there is a Golden spire which indicates a Jain Temple and a Jain Ghat.

This ghat is very beautiful ghat and if u travel if boat u will see it clearly..very well maintained ghat ..must visit if u travel varanasi

A definitely holy ghat for the Jain followers. The ghat is kept clean. We walked throughout the ghats and this one was cleaner and better. In the morning or in the evening the ghat is full of activities, like praying, meditation, sitting, bathing. All sorts of rituals go along on this ghat. Actually all the ghats are adjacent to each other with no gaps. The view is nice from boat. During festivities, they are decorated nicely with candles. For the elderly, it is better to visit the ghats by boat.

Lovely place to visit and worth by river and around by foot. Some steep steps so must be careful. Also worth being around Ghats in daytime and evening

Because this ghat is the only one belonging to the Jain cult in Varanasi, it is often called "Jain Ghat", although its specific name is "Bachraj Ghat".
This ghat clearly shows that the practices that take place in Varanasi, and in particular the purification ceremonies, are not foreign to the Jain doctrine.
Not only that, it must be remembered that, according to tradition, as many as four out of the twenty-four "Tirthankara" were born in Varanasi (the Tirthankara, or "indicators of the path", are the supreme spiritual guides of Jainism).
This explains the importance of the Bachraj Ghat; which, according to what I could understand, is a place of evocative ceremonies, very attractive to see.
However, I visited the ghat in the monsoon season: the Ganges was in its peak water level, therefore tourist navigations were forbidden. So I had to settle for a view of the temples on the land side; which obviously affects the (modest) impression I had about the place.

If you are on the Boat tour of Ghats, you cannot miss out on this ghat. It is unique in its architecture and presents a broad landscape.
