India Trip Offer Dashashwamedh Ghat is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganga River. It is located close to Vishwanath Temple and is probably the most spectacular ghat. Two Hindu legends are associated with it: According to one, Lord Brahma created it to welcome Lord Shiva

Dashashwamegh Ghat and its vicinity are throbbing, busy, crowded, noisy but enjoyable, choc a block with eating joints, souvenirs, little hotels etc. The evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamegh Ghat is beautiful, surreal and very enjoyable. It is best watched from a boat in the river, although one may watch it from the ghats too.

This ghat is located very near to the town area..

This ghat is approached by taking a walk..

Boats are kept for taking a ride..

Kindly pre-plan your boat ride, otherwise it will be difficult for you to accept the charge they collect for boat ride.

( Private boats - the charge will be from 2000 to 3000 for a single trip of about 45- 50 minutes )

Make sure that the boat man is aware of all the ghats and explains the minute details to you (sometimes some of the details are not known to the tour guide also, but these people explains simply and neatly )..

Kindly don't miss to see the Manikarnika Ghat while taking a ride in the boat..

Ganga Aarti place is very near to this Ghat.

There is a temple which is seen partly submerged in Ganga river ( some of us have seen it in Google search - a temple which is seen partly submerged in Ganga river but still remaining in good position )..

We were there with family. We took boat ride, which was good. Charges were Rs. 50 per person and it took near about 30 minutes to see some ghats. It was a motorised boat running on diesel set. For Arti we took our place nearly at about 5 pm. Arti started at 6.45 and lasted for nearly 45 minutes. If you want to see Arti from a good location, reach till 5.30 pm. Another option is boat with deck facility. You may take a seat on the deck of a boat and watch the Aarti. I found several families sitting on the boats just in front of Arti place - a good option for late comers.
One thing which upset me was a big SUV standing in the middle of road through which devotees were returning after watching Aart. We found it while returning from Aarti and it was having a sticker of some Hindu Organisation. This VIP culture upset me very much and lessen the faith and regard in the Hindu system.

Dashashwamedh Ghat is the heart of the action and the top attraction in Varanasi.

The perfect way to see all the ghats in Varanasi is - boat Tour. Agents will come to you when you will be nearby ghats and negotiate with you, make sure that before riding. but again, to see 130 ghats and their beauty, you must have this in Varanasi.

One of the oldest and holiest Varanasi ghats, According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma created the ghat to welcome Lord Shiva.

The name 'Dashashwamedh' means the place where Lord Brahma sacrificed ten horses. It is also said that Bajirao Peshwa I had the ghat reconstructed in 1740 AD. It was later constructed over by the queen of Indore, Ahilyabai Holkar, in 1774.

it's where the famous Ganga aarti takes place every evening when the whole ghat comes to life when several priests perform the aarti in the grandest manner!.

If visiting varanasi, do take sometime out of your evening to view 7pm Ganga arti at this ghat. Offer your donations to the group performing the arti to support them.
