The liveliest point on the Ganges in Varanasi

This ghat is the busiest and, although each ghat has its own character, this is the liveliest place.

Probably the largest ghat in Varanasi. Quite clean nowadays. In the evening Ganga aarti is performed on this ghat which is worth seeing.

Beautifully coordinated, spiritually uplifting, soul stirring and very energizing experience. The live prayers, the smell of the incense, and the lights of the aarti against the setting sun - incomparable

A good picture of the Indian devotion to their culture - a must see activitiy in Varanasi. For a better view climb the steps to the terraces and rent a chair. Some people take a boat tour to experience this event.

You cannot miss this place in Banaras! The overall experience is amazing with sooo many people. The evening aarti is best viewed from a boat ride in Ganga which usually costs ~1000 for a personal boat but worth the cost!

Essential part of the trip is the Ganga Aarti ceremony in the evening. A key part to that experience is the walk through the streets to get there, Eyeopening culture shock. I found the ceremony to be not as powerful as expected, although it is essential to remember that this is a daily event not in the slightest staged for... More
