You must see the cremation ceremonies each night. Quite moving and very interesting. Travel is on foot and by paddy rickshaw.

We spent three days in Varanasi, walking in the ghats, visiting university, Durga temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple, Tibetan tempke and others, took a boat trip. Went to Sarnath city. We liked Varanasi, evening aarti is exciting, food is very tasty

Almost all pilgrimage/visitor visit this ghat. Beauty is seen at dusk. Boating to surrounding gives aroma to your trip.

Our guide for our 2 day visit. Molu Upadhyay, took us here. So much going on. Wood being piled, bodies getting ready for cremation and families gathering. Rituals that go back centuries

Daswamedha ghat is the most popular ghat among the other ghats. Mainly because it is closest to the main viswanath temple. One must visit it. The evenings are very pleasant and enjoyable.

If one has time you must experience the Sandhya Arti both from the Ghat side and from the boat. It gets crowded so its a good idea to reach early and get a good seat which is free and "first come first seat" and must watch the entire Arti

This is the don't- miss place to see in Varansi, especially at dusk, when the chanting and incense rise and can be seen from an adjacent ghat, or better yet from a boat on the Ganges.

Dasaswamedh Ghat is in the middle of a string of ghats lining the Holy Ganges river as it meanders around Banaras. Legend has it that King Dashrath performed 10 Ashwamedh yagna ( Horse worship) on this ghat. Currently, this is the place where the Gangotri Ashram conducts morning and evening aarti, which is a must not miss visual spectacle. Dasaswamedh... More

A boat ride across the ghats culminating in the Mahaarti(evening prayers) is magical, poetic and enveloping. You are enveloped by a sense of the largeness and magnificence of the universe and the need to find the meaning of life. To enjoy this experience completely, overlook the initial haggling for a boat and the muck and grime. Once you set sail... More
