This ghat is where the Morning Prayer to Ganga is held early each morning. There is also a Purification Ceremony that is usually held at the same time. The ceremonies are quite interesting to see.

Assi ghat is a comparatively quieter ghat and most popular after Dashashwamegh ghat. Boat rides can also be commenced from here. This is the first ghat and and the other ghats follow. Since Ganga enters here first hence it is comparatively cleaner.

Lots of people around you and evenly crowded but one can feel peace at this place. Nice place in the old and main city of "KASHI".

Most motor accessible ghat in Varanasi . Start and end your boat journey here. Clean and good ghat for both morning and evening times. This is the most open , vast and clean ghat in Varanasi

I am at Assi ghat everyday. I would be watching the arti or be there simply for self introspection. Love the mysticism that surrounds the place. I guess it is one of the most visited ghats after Dasashwamet Ghat.

As a friend very eloquently put it " Some lamps started being floated and the sounds of bells and sonorous chanting heralded the prayers. Grand lamps held gallantly aloft were oscillated propitiously. The rising crescendo was watched by the silent Ganga." It was a truly...More

The aarti is performed here early morning 5 -530 a.m. under the Subah e Banars cultural and spiritual event. In winter timing may have changed. Please ask your Hotel or Guest House once you arrive in Banaras.
