Very active temple, people being shaved, having their horoscopes read and various ceremonies going on all around you. You need a guide (or a... More

The Monkey Temple was part of a tour of Varanasi but we were not allowed to enter the temple. Don't know if this was a temporary ban on visits or something more permanent. Durga Kund temple is the primary temple dedicated to Goddess Durga in Varanasi. It also has a pond in the vicinity. Also one can spot Monkeys! Inside the temple, its serene and calm and sitting area around (i mean the stairs).

A short walk past many women and children begging for money saw us at the temple. Shoes off we entered a packed temple with worshippers in lines of male and female making their way to the shrine. Around the wall were men who took prayer requests for a small payment.
