About
Standing on the western bank of India's holiest river Ganges, Varanasi is the oldest surviving city of the world and the cultural capital of India. It is in the heart of this city that there stands in its fullest majesty the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in which is enshrined the Jyotirlinga of Shiva, Vishweshwara or Vishwanath.

The Kashi Vishawanath temple with its new corridor is a must visit, it has now become a very beautiful, very satisfying pilgrimage. Cameras, mobiles, digital watches, anything electronic are not allowed inside the temple premises.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The newly renovated temple with wider access and more facilities for the devotees and the tourist alike has increased the ease of visiting this one of the most important religious site. While some areas are still under development and other cordoned off, its still a must visit just to experience the energy of the place. For security reasons taking any electronic device is strictly prohibited including watches and small gadgets too. There are multiple gates for entry including the old entrance which goes through Godowlia market which has a long serpentine queue, however just ask for Gate 4 entrance, which is far more easier. Also there are paid access as well which if for INR 300/- pp, in which a priest would take you to the temple and bring back quickly, you also get free locker and prasad (this is an official service again on the way to Gate 4), but this service is from 6am to 6pm and the booking can be done via online or at the counter during these hours. Locker facility is also available separately for INR 20/-.

ProTip: Parking is a challenge in Godowlia by itself, so avoid taking your own vehicle, also the official Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust Helpdesk is a good place to get the Prasad and the locker facility, so avoid falling for tourist traps.

Shiva bhakts can take a dip in the river every morning and worship the Lord in the temple, which will now have direct visibility from the ghat,” an official of the Ministry of Culture said.

Took more time to purchase the ticket then the visit. A priest takes you in and out in few minutes for 600 inr. Only one small temple to visit inside the complex, and there is always a queu off people, so hurry hurry.
The site is under construction, loud noise from heavy machines, dust, dirt. It takes away all the magic.

This review is of the premises only. The significance of lord Kashi Viswanath is unparalleled.

The positive is that the government is trying to get the whole place to a much better shape but unfortunately that means that the pilgrims suffer during this period. The whole experience of the narrow alley with dug up slushy road, crowds with no covid control and the main temple premises also dug up made it extremely unsafe and unpleasant for all devotees and especially the older devotees.

I only pray that the government finishes all the construction activity as soon as possible and introduce proper crowd management like in other large temple of India and also take out all the touts and middle men.

Jai Bole nath!!

This is a holy place and for the followers of the Hindu Faith. It is very crowded and entry into the temple is after a patient wait in a long que. Probably all this inconvenience will go after the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Project will be finished. Read more on Papumashi the Nomad -------" The Great Gangetic Plain and The Kumbh Mela".
