The three most important depictions of Godess Parvathi are the Kashi Vasalakshi, Kanchi Kamakshi and Madurai Meenakshi. Having seen the later two, the Vasalakshi temple was a far cry from the rest. A simple structure managed by a purely commercial minded management.

Enter from gate no. 2. You will see a small board on the right in about 100m. I went at about 7.30am on a Monday. No queue. Small, quaint temple. Purohita don't force you for Pooja. It is entirely your choice. If there is limited rush, they allow you to sit in a corner and meditate. Maybe it was the time of the day or the really beautiful statute of the divine mother, the overall vibe was peaceful.

Must visit place in Varanasi. A shaktipeeth. I dont know why people miss this. I think it is maintain by South Indian pujaris. It is small and clean. Original Murti is at back of front murti. The front murti has been placed by shankaracharya.

Very nice temple of Goddess Vishalakshi very near Kashi Vishwanatha Temple. There are two idols of Vishalakshi We went to this temple very early in the morning after doing abhisheka and pooja in Viswanatha temple.
The temple is very clean and well kept. every day abhishekha and alankaara, decoration with new saree, flowers.
There is Srichakra and Kumkuma Archane is done and prasad is given to devotees. Small temples around and in the vicinity of Vishalakshi temple.

Vishalakshi temple is one of the Shaktipeeth temples in India located in Varanasi. In fact due to other famous temples like Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi many people miss out on this temple. However for any devotee of Maa Durga or Shakti this is a must visit temple. This temple is located with in walking distance of Kashi Vishwanath temple. The temple is also less crowded and peaceful.

Vishalakshi or Vishalakshi Gauri an aswpect of Goddess ParvatiGauri. This temple is located at Mir Ghat on the banks of River Ganges. This is a sacred temple and considered as a Shakti Peetha.
As per mythology, the daughter of Prajapati, Sati married Lord Shiva without the consent of Prajapati. Once Prajapati orginised a Yajna and he did not invite daughter Sati and Lord Shiva. Sati visited the Yajna site but Prajapati insulted Sati. Due to this Sati jumped into the yajna sacrificial fire and committed suicide. Sati died but the corpse did not burn. Grief stricken Shiva takes the corpose and wandered the universe and he meets Lord Vishnu. Vishnu dismembered the body into 52 parts, each part of which is known as a holy Shakti Peetha. Shiva also worshipped at these Shakti Peethas in the form of Bhairava.
It is believed that the ear rings of Sati had fallen at this holy spot of Varanasi. This temple is known for its holy festival KAJALI TIJ, which is held on the 3rd day of waning fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada (August).
Not to miss this temple during Varanasi visit.
Om Namah Shivaya.
