This Heritage Walk through the ancient village of Kachhpura through to Mehtab Bagh was a highlight of my visit to India. The walk allows a behind the scenes view of life beyond the Taj Mahal.
I was first impressed with the vegetable fields attentively tended by village farmers. I was then impressed with the warm hospitality of the brightly clothed villagers wearing, and especially the children as they played amongst themselves in happy fashion. The central courtyard is an excellent spot from where you can appreciate the goings on of village life. Our local guide escorted us to his uncle’s house to have a glimpse of life inside a home. His cousin was on the rooftop preparing a meal for her family. The whole time I was there, I couldn’t help but think of how proud my father would be to witness the positive changes in India since he visited in the 1960’s.
The walk took us through to Mehtab Bagh from where we watched the Taj Mahal during sunset. This vantage point gives you a completely different view of the Taj Mahal but also allows you to continue witnessing village life as villagers pass by with their goats and sheep at the end of the day. You may even see water buffalo cooling off in the Yamuna River.
The heritage walk was arranged by our travel agent through Sita Travel. Our guide escorted us through the site along with a young gentleman, a student who lives in the village who proudly explained the progress his village is making toward living in self sufficiency and good health.

I'm so glad I got to experience this heritage walk and interact with the locals and see how they have been living for ages. There was also a memorable surprise to see other monuments that are not famous as the Taj but dates from the same period. It was really interesting. There is a local young boy that tries to uplift his community, well done for him. The view of the Taj is amazing and to think the local children grow up with this monument on the horizon.

This 1 hour walking tour gives you a great view of the Yamuna River and Taj Mahal while allowing you to experience an authentic Indian village. The kids in the village were wonderful and welcoming. This was a highlight of our day in Agra.

Our walk through the farming community of Kachhpura was an eye opener. We saw just how much education and teaching new skills, such as how to install basic sanitation, can improve village life. Our tour ended on the roof of a house at sunset with a magnificent view of the Taj Mahal from the back.

The "Heritage Walk" provided us with a lot of historical background information on the ancient structures of Agra. This tour is kind of off the beaten path. Take it, if you can.

This tour was one of my favorite experiences in India. However , it can be overwhelming for some too. Currently ,many in this village do not have indoor plumbing or electricity. Some do. The people were very hospitable and engaging to us. I felt sadness, gratitude, connection and learned a lot too.
I m very thankful for our guide Kahn who was wonderful as well.
For us the entire experience was very intense and I think of this place often.

It is approximately 1.5 Km Walk. It is a village which shows you ancient mugal culture. At the end of walk you see Taj.

This was by far one of my best experiences of India. I am so grateful to Radhey for guiding me through streets I would never see otherwise. I encourage other travelers to make this tour a priority.

Radheymohan who has lived in Kachhpura all his life, walked us through the village and provided us with much detail on how the families live and the help they have been receiving from the government and other countries to help improve their living conditions.
Many of the properties now have their own toilet but there are around 100 that are still waiting to have one installed. And whilst the conditions throughout the village are very poor, the people themselves are very friendly and welcoming.
It was certainly an eye opener that people still live in such poor conditions but definitely worth visiting and was one of the highlights of our trip - you get to see the real India and what life is really like, not just the monuments and temples which I feel, is a very important part of your trip.
I couldn’t recommend this highly enough.
