We went about 9:15 am. Produce from farmers was being auctioned off to middle men, fruit and vegetable stands all set up, but still not many shoppers. Huge array of colorful products. Large beef butcher area, poultry area and more. If you like markets, this one is a gem. And you have it to yourself for photos--everyone happy to have... More

The local market is very quiet when compared to standard noise levels in such markets elsewhere. All sorts of exotic/unusual/unorthodox produce like tree tomotos, ruharb, nool kool, coloured capsicum, broccoli etc are available here. The purchases are to be planned in a such a way that you get the materail as close to your time of departure as possible. The... More

I lived in Nilgiris until the late 90s and then relocated to Chennai and then Bangalore for work. I miss the local fruits like custard apple, tamita, passion fruit, and other wild fruits. I was very happy to see them in the main market fruit stall area. They were priced okay compared to the exorbitant price in the shops on... More

The noise, the colour and the smells (some pleasant, some lovely and one or two pretty awful) makes this an essential visit. It is a vibrant, lively place with bustling people, chickens waiting in cages to the slaughtered and porters struggling under sacks and packages. Human life at its best.

Ooty shopping is famous for self/hand made chocolates, many verity of chocolates with raisins and nuts are available. as it is a tourist place i felt prices are little bit costly. we can get good swetters, caps and hats also.

It's a decent place to hang out to pass time in the evenings. Many shops selling Ooty's famous hand made chocolates, oils etc. Lots of winter wear clothes and things. Good place to grab street food. There is a veggie and fruit market as well from where you can buy Ooty special fruits.

The main bazaar or market located at Ooty is a paradise for shopping fanatics. The items range from clothes, spices, tea, chocolates, cocoa, etc which are manufactured locally and available in the market at reasonable rates. The entire market is spread across 2-3 km and has plenty of options.
