    Worth the visit
Very well managed temple. Walking barefoot can be a bit troublesome. There is no specific arrangement to keep your footwear, you just leave it on the sides. Also, follow the instructions carefully, you might be denied entry. You can rent/buy required clothes locally.

    Stunning tower
Stunning tower. Unfortunately as advised non Hindus are not allowed entry and we had approached from the wrong direction so ended up walking all the way round the outer wall before viewing the tower. Nice views across the Lilly pond. Lots of security watching you due to the multi millions in gold and jewels in the vaults. Felt it was ironic when seeing beggars in the nearby streets. But that is often the case with religions.

    Beautiful experience
We visited the temple during our visit to Trivandrum. It is mandatory for ladies to wear a saree or wrap around a dhoti and for men to wear a dhoti to the temple. We entered from the East gate which was lined with shops in typical local architecture with tiled roofs. The temple architecture is stunning and the corridors are lined with beautiful statues that have place for lighting diyas. We opted for a special Darshana @ INR 500. We didn’t have to wait in any queues and went straight to the sanctum sanatorium. The statue of Lord Vishnu is breathtakingly beautiful and can be seen in parts through 3 gates. After the darshan, we were given a tin of the Prasadam each, which came free with our tickets. The same can be oversize purchased from INR 100. All in all, a very beautiful experience

Tips for a crowd free experience @ Guruvayur temple
I went with my elderly mother & it was a pleasant experience. We went on a weekday and took the special darshan ticket worth Rs.1000/person. There was no rush in the special darshan line and we got the main swamy darshan within a few minutes. Then we went to ticket counter 8 with the special darshan receipt & collected our prasad which consists of sandal wood, elachi banana, powder sugar prasadam and kum kum. Even though it is a Sabarimala season, I recommend going on a weekday & buying the special darshan ticket for a crowd free experience. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

Dont miss the temple vibes, meditate here
You must visit this god's abode (5 star for Prabhu Vishnu blessings and for calling me there). However I was highly disappointed by government management who are here just to milk the profit from devotees and zero maintenance. Even so that there is no waiting area available when temple is closed during lunch time.

    Lord Vishnu abode
Amazing temple with amazing architecture. Truly a gem of Kerala. Here man needs to compulsory wear Mundu and women can wear salwar kameez or sari. We visited this place in the month of December 2023 which was Sabrimala season hence there was a bit rush, but overall you can have darshan within an hour or so. Since here lord vishnu is in sleeping position, you are not able to have darshan of the lord vishnu due to poor lighting because only diyas are lit in the sanctum sanctorium. Temple also provides the cloak room facility where you can keep all of your belongings. Nothing is allowed inside the temple except wallets : ). Disclaimer: Due to paucity of time, we reached late at the temple and one of the shopkeeper tricked us to buy dhoti for women also saying that salwar kameez is not allowed, but it is indeed allowed so dont listen to anyone. If there's doubt just ask the guard of the temple premises.

A divine, humbling experience at Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple, Thiruvananthapuram
Our visit to the revered Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple at Thiruvananthapuram was an awesome, spiritually lifting experience for us. This was our first visit to this shrine and we were very happy to see the place maintained so well, everything was very clean and the movement of devotees well coordinated. Inside the temple, the darshan of the deity was simply a very humbling experience. The idol of Sree Padmanabha Swami looked simply resplendent and beautiful and it truly felt divine standing in front of the Almighty and offering our prayers. The arathi and the diyas enhanced the spirit and being of all present. The darshan timings are convenient and the entire process well regulated. The structure and architecture of this temple is over three centuries old, beautiful, ornate carvings and long corridors which seem to be never ending. Right from the presiding deity and the idols of the other gods are magnificent and a sight for hungry eyes and grateful hearts. The legend and the history behind every deity, structure and the tremendous effort which our forefathers have put in to make this place a divine, inspiring, lifting experience is seen to be believed. A truly divine, humbling experience at Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple. May his blessings be with everyone, everywhere.🙏🙏🙏

One has to change over to a Dhoti and carry nothing to visit the temple. However, if you are in a hurry, don't forget to carry cash so that you can purchase VIP entry tickets from inside and skip the long long line to reach the inner place of worship. People line up in the large veranda and moves slowly forward and its a really long long wait. But the wait is worth and one feels the peace and tranquillity of mind to be there. Dhotis are available for purchase in the various stalls in front of the main entrance.

The Temple is very beautiful, spacious, beautiful architecture. But...
When we entered the gate, some of the visitors were carrying shirts (not wearing). In a very rude and arrogant voice, the person at the gate shooed them away and told them that shirts are not allowed inside. Did not even guide as to where they could be kept. Mobiles are not allowed (which is fine).
We got Rs. 250 tickets and were standing in the line (4th or 5th). At 5pm, the entrance opened for darshanam. And we went inside. At the same time from the side entrance, about 300 people, all from the north (apparently the governor's guests) just rushed inside creating chaos. They were just pushing and pulling each other and shouting. There was absolutely no crowd control. At the sanctum, the priests were shouting (never seen this in other temples in Kerala). There was no line - might was right. We just had a glimpse of the Lord and walked outside. And these 300
There is a Rs. 200 ticket, Rs. 250 ticket - the difference is an additional flower and a plastic bag.
The east nada has steps to climb. The south does not.
And there is a Boli and Chips shop (Maha Boli and Maha chips) near the East nada.

Actual history is still not known. Big temple. Even on a day with absolutely no crowd it took 2-3hrs ( incl museum) V strict dress code. Women can wear long skirt and top. If u wear pants, u can buy a dhoti for 50-100 bucks and wrap it around. Temple floor gets v hot, better to plan in the morning/evening. Quick darshan tickets are for 250/-
The museum adjoining is also v good. Free guides available.

The Padmanabha Swamy Temple located in Thiruvananthapuram was in the news a few years ago to discover the treasure worth a few billion dollars, thus surpassing Vatican and Thirupathi in wealth. The name Thiruvananthapuram means the city of Lord Anantha or Lord Vishnu. Photography is strictly prohibited, which is very unusual. The temple construction is a tribute to Dravidian architecture. You will find the ambiance serene and peaceful. Early Sangam literature and works of 9th-century poet Nammalwar could be witnessed here. The temple has restrictions on clothing. Men must remove their upper dress and cover the lower part in a dhoti while women wear saris. If you happen to wear shorts or salwar kameez or other than sarees, you should purchase a dhoti available nearby (Rs.90) and cover yourself with that. Because of this dress code, many VIPs including Presidents of India, could not enter the premises. The covid protocols are followed in letter and spirit. There is no rush owing to the pandemic and for darshans, guides are made available. You could also do it on your own if you so wish. There are no charges for darshans, but you will have to make small payments for special pujas. Taj Vivanta hotel takes care of temple darshans, and you could tie up special darshans if you are staying at Taj Vivanta. Explore and enjoy the blessings of the Lord Padmanabha. Though the temple's wealth is enormous, you won't get anything free of cost, and you will have to pay even for prasadam. Be blessed!
Ps. "North Nada" is the best to have direct access to the temple and PRO Mr. Arvind is of great help should you need any support.

Recommend one take a special darshan ticket for Rs 500 ( which includes Prasad and flower offering) . This will put you in a special VIP shorter queue, ahead of the long free darshan queue . There is also a Rs 50 special darshan queue , but this was also quite long . The special darshan Rs 50 and Rs 500 get you to the front of the altar so you get a better view of the Lord Vishnu idol than the free darshan . It is quite dark inside and you can barely see the idol partially from the three viewing doors . Even with a special VIP darshan ticket of Rs 500 , it took almost 45 minutes to do the darshan . Crowd management is not so good .

This beautiful temple situated in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram is very easy to approach . There is a parking area near the north entrance, though the east gopuram is the most commonly used and most ornate.
The dress code of sarees and Mundu is very strictly adhered to.
Mobile phones and electronic gadgets are not allowed at all.
Though the website says about the temple closing at 8.30 pm the last free entry is at 7.20 pm.
The queue is very disorderly and one gets to see a very small portion of the deity.
The Padmanabha murti of shri Vishnu is not seen at all.
A self proclaimed PRO suggested we book a ₹ 20,000 Pooja the following day to have full Darshan.
The lady at the depository at north gate was very methodical and spoke Hindi/ English well.

This is an amazing and quite ancient Vishnu temple in Trivandrum. We had booked a hotel in nearby Thampanoor area and easily got an auto rickshaw for Rs 60 from there. We entered from the South gate side. The temple has a dress code: Dhoti or Mundu (with or without Angavastram) for men (No footwear, shirts or vests allowed inside) and Sarees for ladies (alternately they can put Dhoti over whatever they're wearing. Saw some ladies put dhotis over their churidar/jeans). There are shops at temple itself where dhotis can be bought for as little as Rs 60. There are cloak rooms to keep items (phones, bags etc are not allowed inside the temple). We didn't use the facility and took turns instead to go inside
There was an area outside where we could wait and keep our footwear.
We entered from this South gate. We had reached there at 5 pm and Darshans were just starting. In fact, we had to wait for the dwars to be opened. Darshans were very fast for us (around 20 minutes) as crowd was not much at this time though it was a Sunday. (Darshans were fast early morning around 3:30-4 am also as told by other hotel residents the next day).
There were guiding signs and people telling us the way. Vishnu ji is in reclining position and through doors we can only see partially through each window. So be very careful there to gave a proper darshan. It was a divine experience for us and would recommend everyone to go there. There were other small deities etc too. Near exit there was a place to buy books, prasadam, trinkets etc also.
If you're a defence personnel you should enter from North gate and contact the PRO office there for Darshan.

It is a huge temple complex with common entrance on East as well as North sides. The east side has a huge pond outside and is highly crowded whereas north gate is more quieter. It has an interesting story behind. Huge idol of Lord Vishnu in a sleeping pose. They were having Lakshdeepam festive (festival of one lakh diyas) when we visited. That was mesmerizing - a procession in the temple with fully decorated elephant and a decoration of hundred thousand diyas (lamps) made it an unforgettable experience.

The custodians of certain temples in India believe that the the so called Gods resident in these temples are only menat for 'Hindus'. How do they know that the people entering are Hindus? By insisting that they wear certain kinds of garb which represent being a Hindu! The juvenile and ignorant minds of these so called custodians is not just sad but laughable. It is best to stay away from such places. God would never be present in such places.

Rumoured to be the richest temple in world, It is a must visit place while in Trivendrum.

Located near Trivendrum central railway station it has four entry gates and open from 7:30 am to 8 pm ( as per current covid scenario).

No electronics such as mobiles, car keys, laptops, etc are allowed to be taken inside. Its a high security temple. There is a dress court too which says that males have to wear kerala traditional Dhoti (lungi) with no shirt or tshirt or sando and females have to wear saree or suit only, no westerns or jeans or pants. The dress code lets the tourists enjoy a taste of south india more deeply.

It is big temple from inside and very peacefull.

If you stay for long like 8:30 pm you can see the aarti also which is done by taking idols over heads and making parikramas in temple premises.

Padmanabhaswamy temple in Trivandrum has been Vishnu’s abode for over 5000 years, although the present structure came up only during the Nayaka period. It is an interesting blend of the Tamil and Kerala architecture traditions. It’s stone corridors, magnificent statues, stages for performances and dimly lit inner sanctum provide clues of the importance they had in common lives.

Lord Vishnu lay supine on a platform provided by Sheshnag, with Brahma above him and Shiva beneath. The inner sanctum was rather dark, but our guide tried to get us the best possible darshan. The smaller temples in the complex are of various avatars of Vishnu and also popular among the people.

One word of caution, men are expected to be topless and clad in a mundu (dhoti).
