This was my second or third visit to Cochin and I finally landed in the spice market this time as I was looking for something in particular. On my last visit to Kerala I had bought a strip of variety of spices from a shop called Krishna's Mall and all my my friends who I had gifted it to were very happy with the variety and the way it was packed . This time I was only visiting Cochin but I wanted to take back spices with me and I thought it would be nice if I get the same type that I had brought from Munnar . So I asked my friend who I was staying with and they took me to this street called Broadway. It is just ahead of the St. Teresa's convent and College. Theres a CSI church next to it and the Broadway street is just ahead of this . Its a small lane filled with shops proudly proclaiming Gujarati masala shop. Theres a wide variety of spices and dry fruits available here and quite reasonable prices. And I was most happy because I found what I was looking for. The different variety of spices packed together in a long strip. A little bit of everything. Its a nice gift to give on your return from Kerala. You get them in boxes too . And you could buy it by weight according to how much you want. The aroma that filled the house when we returned with the spicess was awesome. Now that I've found this place Broadway I will always go there on my visits to Cochin . Am a happy Spice girl !!

The Spice market of Kochi at Broadway street is a wholesale market where one can buy good quality spices and dryfruits at very reasonable rates. They offer huge variety and excellent quality stuff. There are many shops here, however, one of them N K P & Sons is really good. Its a huge shop with lots of variety. So do visit this market and buy spices for Kerala is famous not only in India but across the globe !

You visit this market and you can really get the aroma of all spices. Fresh and competently priced spices are available here. There are number of shops here mainly owned by Gujarathis or Marwadis. They also grind fresh masala of any spice and give you in a faily quick time.

This is a local market with a very narrow road with shops lined on either sides. there are shops of all kinds, like textiles, steel shops along with some spice shops. Spices are cheaper here compared to other places.

We visited the spice market along broadway street. The shop is called Spice Central. We noticed most of the locals go to this shop to buy. The workers hardly have time to entertain you if they are busy but the moment the orders go higher and higher, you will be allocated a personal assistant throughout your purchase and packaging.

The freshness of the various spices need to experienced, difficult to explain. For a person with little knowledge on spices, I could realize the freshness.

Most spices can last 2 years in proper storage but if you get cheaper ones, may last up to 6 months.

Do not but spices in Fort Cochin, Mattancherry or Jew town. Very expensive and limited choices.

Its the main spice market of Ernakulam. Its situated in broadway, just a walking distance from Marine drive. If you are in Kochi then its the best place to buy spices as local buys.Spice shops in Fort Kochi /Matanchhery are touristy and little expensive but this is better. Most of the sellers are from Gujrati community. As you enters the market every where you see shops selling spices.Smell of spices are every where in the air.Its the best place to buy spices in Kochi/Ernakulam.

When I made food with these spices I was amazed! It was so good and flavorful. Just walking into the store you can smell the spices and you will know they are amazing. No wonder price Charles went there!😄If I go back to India this is the first place I will go!!! All the staff are friendly and helpful. The owner is reasonable with prices.
