Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, located in Fort Kochi, Cochin, Kerala, is a popular tourist destination and a significant religious site in the region. This basilica, built by the Portuguese in the 15th-16th century, is considered one of the most impressive and well-maintained churches in India. Its heritage architecture is a key draw, reflecting a mix of Indo-European designs. The church is close to the renowned St. Francis Church, making it a convenient stop for tourists exploring Cochin. The interior is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows that depict scenes from the scriptures, while the high vaulted ceilings and detailed pulpit and altar showcase the craftsmanship of a bygone era. The basilica's structure has an interesting story. It reflects the colonial influence of Portugal and the Netherlands, with contributions from the British and King Raja of Kochi, who supported the building and renovation efforts. The surrounding areas are spacious and calm, providing a serene environment for visitors.

The church has visitor timing restrictions and is closed in the afternoon from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., but is open until around 5 p.m. The main church is closed during prayer times, especially on Sundays. There's ample parking, and entry is free.

If you're planning a visit, the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, located about 45 km away. Ernakulam railway station is about 12 km from the basilica. Overall, Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is a must-visit spot in Kochi, offering a glimpse into the region's rich history and religious heritage.

It is worth a look inside but read the history before you go. It was part of the visits we had to view. It was also connected to the Portuguese back in 1500. It has a nice interior

A v well preserved church which was replaced by a Catholic basilica. The artifacts from historical Kochi are well preserved. You can use your phone to take pictures but not a camera!

Completed in 1905 this Gothic style cathedral is located in the historic center of Kochi. It looks very much like any Roman Catholic church in Europe of the same time period (early 19th century). The tropical setting however makes it distinct. Special are the paintings and frescoes in the interior. Don't forget to look up.

A pity the original cathedral was demolished by the British. From the early 1500s only Saint Francis church is left.

The Basilica turned out to be much more than our expectations. It is well maintained, has impressive ceiling paintings, has gothic interiors and the highlight is a Last Supper painting. Must visit if you are interested in history and architecture across ages.

The architecture is good and it's well maintained. It's a school so don't wear short pants or skirts. 25 mins is enough to see this monument.
