The arch of the dam is huge and visible from far away distance. We stopped on the way while travelling from Munnar to Thekkady to have a break and have a view of the dam from a distance. Its a giant arch indeed.

It is an arch dam. Probably one of it's kind in India. There is no shutters. Cheruthoni dam is adjacent to it which has shutters which has not been opened probably fo the last 25 years. Major hydroelectric power projects draw water from this dam....More
The view from the main road while travelling from Munnar to Thekkady is good. The dam is gigantic and surrounded by greenery. its worth to take a break and enjoy the view with a sip of coffee and something to munch.
