Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pilikula literally means Pond of Tigers. In Tulu language "pili" means tiger and "kula" means lake. In olden days, tigers used to come to this lake to drink water. Hence, this lake came to be known as Pilikula.
Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society has developed this area and it has now become the hot spot for people who are looking for scenic beauty & peace. Pilikula has a huge lake & beautifully laid gardens encircling the entire lake. One can see swans & ducks moving around in the lake & sometimes they even move into the gardens. Boating facilities are available in the lake. One can either use pedaling boats (mostly preferred by couples) or bigger boats carry about 10 to 15 persons.
On the other side of the road, there is a zoo featuring several wild animals. The specialty of this zoo is that the wild animals are not kept in cages. They are in the open. However, there are partitions like wide trenches or wire mesh, in order to avoid direct contact with visitors. There are tigers, leopards, bears and other wild animals inside the park.
There is also a variety of snakes & birds in the zoo

large park and a lake. a zoo nearby too.ideal for early forenoon or late afternoon , as walking will be too tiring. the trees are not large enough to give complete shade though.parking is adequate.

a lake , a zoo and a garden all for a half day excursion in vamanjoor, on the outskirts of Mangalore, a welcome development in an otherwise purely commercial Mangalore. Keep your expectations low and enjoy.

Place is full of wide range of activities. It has veg and non veg restaurant as well, and can carry own food also.
Entry charges :- 100 + 20 for planetarium+ 25 for electric vehicle.
half price above 3 to 12/18 I guess.
Opening: 9:30 AM
Closing: 5:30 PM
Lake Garden 6:30 PM
Water park separate entry and timings altogether. Main entrance for all internal attraction is common.
In the order of map ( can be covered only if entered early by 10:00 AM and have accompanying kids)
1. Science Museum, Garden and 3D dome planetarium - Very good and informative for kids and adults. 1-2 hrs. Kids whole day :) good play area.
2. Zoo - huge collection of animals in walk-able area. Vehicle not needed. 2-3 hrs. No elephant , giraffe though. 150 Rs extra for camera.
3. Opposite to the zoo is the restaurant, serves good veg meals. - 1 hr
4. Water park is separate entry and may need a separate whole day.
5. Beautiful Lake garden with boating (extra 30 rs /p ), aquarium and well designed garden with small Eiffel tower. 2-3 hrs. Closes 6:30. all others at 5:30
6. Heritage House - 1 hr - Local Cultural stuff
7. Artisan Village 1 hr - Local Cultural stuff.
Note the above places are at quite a distance from each other as the place itself is huge area and need to pick and drop in electric vehicle inside where time is wasted especially during lunch hours as the frequency is reduced. No proper manager/ownership or guide for the place as the employees are on contract so self planning is needed.
Animals in the glass cage are good but the glass windows were not cleaned:) Cobra zone is the main attraction and quite good.
If going for half day skip 6 and 7 as others are more rich than those two and they are at the dead end and cannot walk back and dependent on electric vehicle for pickup.
Recommended order.
Keep Lake Garden last or early as during peak sunny hours cannot enjoy outdoor. Go for indoor stuff like restaurant or planetarium (fully AC ) or Zoo as its full of shades and greenery when sun is at peak. Outdoors like kids play area( Nr. Planetarium) can only be good after 4. as it closes at 5:30.
Planetarium can also act as a refresher during the middle of the trip as it 45 minutes full AC show in recliner seats with no energy drain like others. Recharge yourself here.
Own food can be carried except inside planetarium.

Maintenance could have been much better. I wish experts are consulted for its maintenance.
Due to this it's a good place but not very great, can be skipped if you are short of time.

Probably one of the rarest attraction points for people of all age groups and interests! You have attractions related to arts, science, craft, culture, entertainment, plans, animals and more! You can plan to stay in the nearby cottages or stay in Mangalore and commute to this place (around 12 km from the city).
Latest attraction point - the science center is a must see for all kids and teens. Even the children's play park is based on science theme. This space is too small to explain all these attraction points. Refer to http://www.pilikula.com/ for more details.

If you are out on a Jungle experience this is no place to go.
This is not in par with other Jungle Lodge properties in terms of experience.
Good place to relax and see greenery from the balcony but that's it nothing else to do.

In case if you are travelling to Mangalore or Udupi, I strongly suggest ou to keep aside 4-5 hours of your time with family to visit this place. One of the best Botanical park with largest Cobra's breeding place. You have lot of fun activity too, which is very inexpensive.

We were visiting this place just to see a "botanical garden " and got shocked by this worst nightmare come true place .
I never saw so many snakes in one super small cage is which is just horrible ....
The animals have 1 tree or one plant to sit in or by . That you are licensed to keep this zoo open is in my eyes a crime . You should be shut down and rebuild the hole thing ! And this has nothing to do with money ! Giving animals the option to still live as nature near as possible in a zoo doesn't need magic or money It needs love and respect for the animals you are keeping . They have rights to even when they are caged up! There is no light , everything is dark and grey . The birds have not enough sticks and trees to sit on and even the "water points " in the separate cages are dirty .
As we came to the Leopard cage I broke out in tears and I we left this park directly . Its just not right to keep this beautiful animal in this place where he can't even run 20 meters where it can't climb or hide.
This is just about keeping animals alive to show people how they look like and earn money . This is a crime ! I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this place who has a heart for animals . For us it was a one of the sadest things we ever saw I will never forget this experience and I don't understand why this place has so good rankings everywhere ....are people really don't see this suffering ?

Any arrangements for the elderly to be taken around on carts?
Written 27 December 2018
Electric carts are available, but they follow the roads and you may miss out the fun in the zoo

Science museum opens at 10, planetarium shows starts from 11. Zoo opens at 8.30.
All attractions are located next to each other.

How much does it cost for one person to get in?
Written 7 May 2016
Rs. 20 per head which is about 30 cents USD. It is not a great place and is just a local zoo. You would do much better visiting one of the many national park and their safaris which can offer better value for your time.
