Quite Interesting

This was our first gompa at the start of the Sham Valley trek and was quite interesting. But there are more spectacular ones to see around Leh if you are pushed for time.

Seeing this huge statue is truly surreal. The climb up the hill, as with most monasteries is tough, especially given the altitude, but all of these places are worth getting to the top, this one especially.

Likir monastery lived up to that expectation I had. What was particularly interesting is that... More

Likir Monastery a superb setting for Buddha to look over. See photographs - the fresco and historic Tibetan artefacts are worthy of a visit to this site

The Monastery is beautiful, you climb up a little bit and there u find a big statue of Buddha. The area around is quite peaceful and good to spend some time meditating if you like indulging in it.

One of the reasons of a high rating by me is that we were allowed to make pictures here (without using flash), which is often not the case in other old temples. Outside is a large Bouddha, but the statues and wall paintings inside are far more interesting. Our guide explained a number of artefacts that were exhibited in the... More
