Amazing to see this 500 year old step well. The carvings and the layout is impressive. The surroundings are poorly maintained but since everything is free, I am sure they work on a very tight budget.

The Adalaj Step well is a beautiful well which is around 45 minutes drive from Ahmedabad. Its definately worth a one or two time visit. it has been maintained beautifully despite the huge crowd it attracts during the weekends. It is basically a series of steps which go downward into the main well. The way down is decorated with beautiful... More

The standing water has a horrible smell. I could not go even floor down without a strong urge to throw up. I ran put. I bet the structure and carvings are great but how can one enjoy it? Dont go unless you have no problem with stinking places.

This stepped well, constructed for the benefit of the women of the King's family has beautiful architecture at every step. Every step has a firm landing where the women can take bath, change and dress. Several Gods and Goddesses are sculpted. Open almost from sunrise to sunset.

I arrived and saw little pink temple and thought it would be a boring visit but wow...I was wrong. Descending the stairs was incredible. The intricacy of carving was amazing. There are five levels to get to the well. Not many tourists so I was a celebrity posing for photos galore and chatting about cricket! Really beautiful site and worth... More

As is always, the step well is poorly maintained, although notification says" protected monument" Park your vehicle anywhere. Enter from anywhere.... There is hardly any "official govt information" on same. There is a lot of garbage/animal excreta around. Step well is great...very nice & one must spend sometime time, in order to understand the structure.. That said and done, the... More
