We booked an excursion boat trip and snorkelling with Thomsons.
I've been scuba diving in cyprus but had never done any snorkelling so was a bit aprehensive. My girlfriend had snorkelled in mauritous so machismo got the better of me and i said i would.
There were 3x stops scheduled on the trip.
1st one was OK water was really clear and there was a reasonable amount of fish (not as much as i expected though).
As we were heading for 2nd stop about 8x dolphins were swimming a bit off the boat so the head guide stopped and suggested we get out to try and swim with them. He said they might swim off but we should give it a try.
We swam out to where they had been and couldn't find them, we were about to swim back to the boat i put my face in the water and saw them coming straight for me. There were 8x of them and they swam right under me literally inches away from me. i reached out and touched some of them it was amazing. I couldn't believe how close they were coming to us.
I could her there 'click clicking' talking to each other (or us..) unbelieavable i would never swim with captive dolphins as i think it's cruel but to get this close to wild dolphins in their natural habitat was a mind blower, highlight of my trip.
3rd stop was always going to be an anti climax, saw a sting ray. Within seconds the waves got much bigger and the currents stronger. Couple of people got into difficulty and all of us headed back for the boat which was a fair bit off. Was a bit scary as the guides were attending to the 2x guys who were in trouble and the rest of us were told to try to swim for the boat.
Eventually we all got on board safe, but it was a bit scary as im not a strong swimmer. Guides seemed to have everything under control although i think we could have done with another one in the water with us.
I'll definately do it again though, swimming with wild dolphins was the highlight of the whole trip.

The reefs within the Ras Mohammed national park are superb and are well worth the travel time (anything from about 30 minutes upwards) and the park admission fees. The reefs benefit from the protection of the national park status, as there is no development on the land to create run-off or pollution and the impact of visitors to the reefs is monitored to ensure damage is kept to a minimum.
Spectacular walls, clouds of anthias and other reef fish, numerous soft and hard corals and a range of pelagic fish (depending on the season) make for varied and exciting diving.
Anemone city is a vastly under-rated site, as the magnificent anemones found here are endemic to the site, and closer examination with a torch reveals skirts of shocking red. This site often precedes a swim across the blue to Shark and Yolanda reef.
Shark and Yolanda reef are the most popular site in the park and can be quite busy at times. Currents on Shark reef are variable, some dives will see you sweeping across the front of the reef, unable to stop if you wanted to, another dive might see you swimming as close to the reef as possible as you battle against a current directly in your face. Down currents are also found in places on this reef - watch which way the fish are swimming to give you clues as to what the current is doing. As you cross the front of the reef look into the caves, as you can find large groupers resting in caves. Eventually beyond Shark reef you reach Yolanda, the site of a wreck of the same name. The boat was long since washed over the edge of the drop-off and can no longer be seen. The wreckage that can be seen is entertaining enough though, with toilets, bathtubs and the remains of the captain's BMW (allegedly!). Scorpionfish and rays are often found lurking in amongst the wreckage. A safety stop around Yolandetta gives you a fantastic view over the entire wreck site.
Jackfish Alley is another excellent dive, starting with a swim through from 6m. Patch reefs in the sandy gulley include a superb glassfish pinnacle, a popular stop with photographers.
Some operators will pick the sites just inside the park, rather than travelling the extra miles to do the more popular sites. There are many other superb dive sites within the park, but Shark/Yolanda is definitely worth the visit.

As a qualified diver I have snorkeled and dived all around the world. I can honestly say the ras Mohammed is an amazing place to experience the red sea and all it's marine life has to offer.
There really is something for everyone here the varied and vibrant fish and calm bays and reefs for snorkelling and moored and drift dives of varying depths including the odd wreck and cave for divers along with some amazing fish big and small.
Keep your eyes open for the passing dolphin pods too.
If your looking for a day on a boat with equipment, guides and lunch and drinks included I would recommend you book with aqua nabq who I have used many times and would 100% recommend for diving or snorkelling.

Beautiful secluded beaches and fantastic views. We spent a day here and enjoyed every minute. Finding the deep water filled cracks in the ground resulting from earthquakes was amazing. Well worth a visit.
