Arrival near the Monastery of St. Catherine has already hinted at all the cruelty of the environment with the mountains and the desert. The very history of the place is mesmerizing and awakens in us a lot of respect. Only by coming to this place...More

Seeing the Monastery and Mount Sinai was amazing. There are lot of people there but things seemed to have been well run considering the small space. Don't be taken in by "museums" that really just pedal "icons." The trip getting there is long if you...More

We visited St. Catherine's Monastery right after our sunrise climb of Moses Mountain. This is one of the oldest monasteries in the world and known for the location of the Burning Bush as well as where the oldest manuscript of the bible was discovered. Just...More

The place was lovely to visit- with the unexpected green garden on approach, the stunning setting between two mountains, and the old buildings inside the walls. We nearly missed the museum, up wooden steps, which would have been a major setback. The museum is fantastic,...More

Access to St. Catherine's is complicated these days. I travelled here with a group of 6, from Israel, crossing at Taba. We had a local bedouin driver, a guide, and a military escort from the border to St. Catherines. Christians have been living here since...More

The monastery has been well preserved and maintained. Some of the places to see is Mose's well, Burning bush, a mosque and the inside of the church which has been there for so many. years.

We didn't get to see the church except from outside, and to see the bush Moses supposedly saw, we had to looked through a locked gate toward a wall 60 or 70 feet distant. Pretty disappointing.

Hi, I am planning a trip in March 2017 and have to pay a deposit. Is St Catherine's Monastery still open to visitors and is it a safe place to visit?

Yes, it is open and very safe. Climbing Mt Sinai is the biggest thing to do there. It doesn't take long to see what you are allowed to see in the monastery. You cannot see much of what is inside the monastery, so it... More

Hey, I was wondering about how you got to the monastery. Did you travel through Cairo or some other location? What was your perception about security and safety issues? Did you stay at the monastery or some other Sinai location? What about food and lodging?

Hi, We stayed at Morgan land hotel near Monastery, and was with a tour group. So the tour van dropped us at the Monastery area. I recommend to be with a group and a licensed tour guide to avoid security issues if any.
