A must see for a ‘real’ Egyptian experience
Feb. 2020 • Friends
If you can’t read Arabic, you’re toast! Just gotta hope they don’t overprice the goods, but’s that’s the only thing you have to be worried about.

It is an amazing experience. Everything is so nicely put and all the produce is from Egypt. I never knew they grow avocados and mangos in Egypt! People are so friendly. You can try so many things, dates, strawberry’s. I have seen the biggest broccoli and cauliflower in my entire life. Very impressive. I think they weighed at least 3 kilos, but likely more. I’ll add a picture of them as well.

The live stock wasn’t a very pretty site. I have chickens myself and the chickens there looked ill. No wonder, they don’t have any space the poor things.
I have seen fruits like ‘ashta’, a peculiar looking thing which tastes like banana and mango. Delicious! Brought some home with me.

An experience one must have! Just go with the flow and you’ll love it.

El Dahar fruit market
Jan. 2020
The highlight of the old town in Hurghada is the souk. Every time I visit El Dahar, Hurghada, I go to this market. There are lots to see and do. The atmosphere is one of a kind. You can’t experience it anywhere else in Hurghada. It’s the most authentic part of the city.I would strongly recommend everyone to go there and have a look at this place. It is easy to spend hours there, browsing the local produce and spices. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and organic. If you want to see and explore real Egypt in Hurghada, go to El Dahar Market.

Old Town of Hurghada
Jan. 2020
People goes there to shop for fruits, perfumes and souvenirs for reasonable prices. The only landmark there is El-dahar church. It's crowded and a bit messy but it is safe.
Go there if you want to shop or you're interested in seeing downtown. Otherwise don't leave the beach to go there.

Prices are fixed and shown on the signs. The life Huck - try to teach the arabic digits, it us easy, do you will be better oriented in prices and no concern about unpleassnt "mustakes" from the sellers side ))

Authentic Egypt shopping
Nov. 2019
In the old town area so it's an adventure if you are accustomed to arriving by tourist bus and being hand held for tours - it's crazy, crowded, and a jumble of fruit, vegetables, meat, and everything in between. I was with an arabic speaker so that helped since this isn't Sheraton street and you will be met with blank but friendly stares if you are trying to negotiate in English at many of the stands - until a teenager helps out! It's real folks so expect the stray cats and mess of a real market - it's messy and yes, there are flies and all the rest of it but hello - it's amazing and you seriously MUST VISIT!!!

I would recommend every one to go there and have a look at the place its very nice and comfortable.

There is the Coptic church - great Icons and wonderful paintings on the walls and ceiling.

After 2 streets from the church there is the shops street, you will find lots of shops, and bazaar's to buy a lot of items and souvenirs with very good prices and its a good time for haggling as well.

The vegetable and fruit market its a must to visit its near to the El Dahar square its surrounded by a wall there is a big digital billboard telling the number of population the entrance of the market is under this billboard. You will find the sellers are very friendly and speaks different languages.

You can go by local transportation, Taxi's, hotel taxis all suitable just tell driver you want to go to El Dahar area

Old Hurghada town.
Aug. 2019 • Couples
Apparently this was the old town of Hurghada, so I was told by an old Egyptian man. I studied photos of Dahar of past times and how clean and fantastic they look. Personally, I can’t keep away from the place. Although today it seems completely different to the photos of the past, now it is not so clean but still full of character. It’s a place to get anything you need, tee shirts, shoes, bags, Bric a brac. The people, although don’t have much, still find the time to smile. The souk is amazing, you can pick up just about every fruit and veg under the sun. In the recent past year the local council have moved the buses to their own compound. I, like many local people find that with your daily wares, it is just a little far to walk loaded up. Just down the Main Street are the many banks of Nasr street, still a great place to visit old Egypt and very safe.

If you look for fancy leave that place not for you it is Egyptian street place for local but you can find all kind of tasty fruit and vegetable and chip to buy but you have to wash it because it fresh. But if you want fancy and want washed ready food you can go to super market expensive.
