Abu Simbel, Abu Simbel, Abu Simbel - there is just something magical about those words, or at least there has been to me since I was a teenager and first learned of the herculean effort by UNESCO to save the most famous of Ramses II...More

Many people do not travel to Abu Simbel as the flight is expensive and it is a three hour drive each way on an uninspiring desert road. However, it is more than worth it. We paid US$70 each in an air conditioned car with driver...More

The fist impression when I saw it was "Wow it is so huge" I wonder how they made it so big and beautiful without modern day machines. It is a must visit site to bring back some nice memories.

How can you top the Pyramids, the Sphinx? Go to Abu Simbel. My tour group took a 30-45 minute flight from Aswan, and then there's only one tour bus that drives to the site. It's a singular experience, stunning. Massive. No pictures are allowed inside...More

But in itself it is a wonderful enough engineering feat to justify the 3 hours drive in the desert by itself. The temples, now about 200 ft. higher are out of the water. And the 4 ages of Ramses a spectacular work of art.

Abu Simbel is jaw dropping when you first turn the corner and see it in front of you. Obviously both temples are empty apart from amazing paintings. When you see the size of the statues of Ramasess the Great you wonder who did they create...More

I booked a 10 day Egypt tour that included flying to Abu Simbel from Aswan & back. The road trip described by others seemed painful at best. Sorry to say the flight was a nightmare. More on that soon. The Abu Simbel temple is remarkable,...More

If you going to flay to Egypt and spend time in the country, you must visit Abu Simbel. I highly recommend flying and staying for the night. This treasure was saved from the rising lake Nasser waters after the completion of the High Dam of...More

Abu Simbel is impressive! First, Ramses II statues are HUGE. Second, the entire two temples (Ramses and Nefertari's) were relocated to where they are now due to the construction of the new water dam... I can't even comprehend the complexity of that job! Third, the...More

I was in Abu Simbel 30 years ago (in excellent shape) and it's a top favorite, but my husband is on oxygen (small practical device) and both get tired easily. How long is the walk to get to the entrance of the complex? I don't remember if there are lots of stairs. Thanks for the information.

The walk is easy. A slight rise to go over back if you walk slowly you will be fine. The entrance has no steps. There is a buggy available if it gets too much. Try and go early inthe morning because it does get hot there.
