Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cisneros is known as the square of light, try to see it at night because on my visit it was in the full glare of the afternoon sun when its 300 columns of light were not on.
I have no idea if it's safe at night, but pictures of it lit up are quite something! Do your research by asking your hotel or a guide and see if its safe.
Anyway even by day its impressive and worth a quick visit.

The plaza here is right next to Biblioteca EPM which is a spectacle in itself. The architecture here is very odd but it is very thought-provoking. The numerous spikes or pillars are a very original and unique concept and there is little reason to question it!

...but, in the late afternoon, crowded with hippy-types and homeless-appearing people. Not dangerous but not too inviting.

Walking from La Alpujarra Administrative Center to the Plaza de Cisneros we passed by the newly restored Edificio del Ferrocarril de Antiooquia or railway museum. This is not really a museum just a large empty building with a few historic pictures on the walls, a post box, and a little café. Originally constructed by Francisco Javier Cisneros while he was building the railway in 1874 that took him 55 years to complete. Unfortunately, with the construction of new roads the railway service declined and was sold off in 1961.
Leaving the Antioquia Railway station in Plaza Cisneros, we walked by the statue of Medellin and entered the Parque de las Luces. This large cement area with its 300 light poles all constructed with concrete and metal and huge bamboo grove is very popular with street vendors and performers. It is surround by the buildings Edificio Carré and Edificio Velasquez, constructed around the 1900’s, as residential homes, however over time the buildings decayed and turned into places openly sheltering drug use and prostitution. Today after major renovation those same buildings are the home of Office for Education for Medellin, and institutes of education, credit, recreation and culture.

TIP: To take photos at night I would suggest getting a taxi or Uber, and drive round the square. That support health, education, credit, recreation and culture.

Great spot for some interesting photos.

If you take the free Real City walking tour, they take you by this area, among many others.

When I got here I thought they were all lightsabers from star wars! A chilled square and I had a lot of locals coming up to me to say hi

They just look like a bunch of sticks in the plaza. It might be better if they weren't there so you can walk around

Once known as the roughest part of Medellin it's now been transformed to a pretty square that's stands for hope and positive change.

It's in downtown Medellin. Nice to hear the history around it. Not a must see.

Stroll through this interesting plaza full of statues recreating giant bamboo. You'll also find some real bamboo on show. Not very busy, but worth seeking out and entirely free to visit.

i walked through in daylight - surely will be more interesting to watch in the evening - the plaza is looking interesting with all those light poles and a nice peace of architecture at one end is the bibliotica EPM (see picture)

can recommend to walk this plaza together with others from san antonio metro station.

nice: no dubious people around that plaza!
