Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The library is unfortunately closed until further notice. I have no doubts that the architecture is as beautiful as described and that it is an impressive structure, however the place is currently covered by a black tarpaulin.

Really nothing to see at the moment (November 2017) because of renovations. Only reason to go here is for the amazing views in the cable car.

Absolutely fantastic (and sweeping) views of the city of Medellin from the MetroCable ride between Acevedo station and the Santo Domingo Station, the closest to the Biblioteca de Espana (a donation from the Spanish Government to the impoverished comuna of Santo Domingo). The architecture of the Biblioteca building is very imposing and distinct, easy to spot from the base of the hill. The building, however, is undergoing construction and the entire building is closed due to safety concerns. The panoramic views, murals throughout the barrio, and the exterior of the building plus the experience of riding the MetroCable are all well worth the visit.

I would love to give this place a glowing recommendation, but unfortuntely there isn't much to see. The area is closed off, and the library is covered up as it undergoes repairs. I was very disappointed when I made the journey this morning. It's a shame because the site is beautiful, with a fantasic view into the valley. It also has a different feel to the more polished atmosphere of the downtown. I felt like I was the only tourist around, which might explain why a couple of old men made declarations of love to me in broken English as I passed by (I wasn't amused).

Just the ride all the way up there is very interesting. Plus the fact that you are walking in a Favela with no worries, ever since the security is very good. The building itself is beautiful, and it shows a little of the amazing social work is being done in that area.

The foundation is crumbling and it's supposed to remain closed for a long time, as I don't believe there's an affordable plan to make it stable. If it reopens, I'll delete my post.

On your next visit to Medellin, you must go to the Biblioteca de España...Nothing really exceptional about visiting a public library except that this one has an amazing architecture and is located at the top of a favela, which was once the most infamous part of Medellin. You reach it by taking the Medellin Metrocable. All the way to the top, you are going above the Northwest barrio of Santo Domingo.
Last but not least, the people of Medellin are extremely nice and friendly and very proud of their city.

This is one of the many library parks in Medellin. I really wanted to visit this one, but it is currently being renovated. The library parks are one of the major innovations in this city; try to visit one of them.

Twenty years ago you wouldn’t adventure for safety reasons into Santo Domingo, the Comuna 1 of Medellin. Like in other “hot” comunas of the city (3, 4, 6, 8 and 13), violence generated by drug trafficking and other armed groups kept away citizens from visiting this natural mirador. Things have changed since the Metrocable was built to connect Santo Domingo with the Medellin metro system. The Spanish Library with its three curious black rock-like buildings emerged here and the social and cultural life in the neigborhood changed. Santo Domingo is now a place crowded with visitors coming to enjoy the views of Medellin from atop.

Three architecturally interesting buildings comprise the Biblioteca and are an impressive sight to see. The Biblioteca was built as a cultural center, learning center and a library for the community of Santo Domingo. Take the Metrocable up for a visit, very nice!
