Esteban from Zippy Tour showed me a great introduction to Comuna 13 and the history of the place's revitalization and opening up, with photos of important events and a very well constructed storytelling. Visiting Comuna 13 with him was like being with a caring friend who knows the place and the people, it was a very enjoyable and safe trip.
In Comuna 13, you will also experience an incredible view on the whole city of Medellin (stay there for the sunset with all the lights of the city going alive like a thousand of fireflies and locals playing great music) and you will find several stores to buy unique souvenirs.
If you travel to Colombia and especially Medellin, I totally recommend experiencing Comuna 13 with Zippy Tour!

We walked with a group of around 28 people, our guide was Esteban. A good guy of 21 years old, who’s been living 11 years in the Comuna.
He spoke good english, was funny, was serious, knows the history of the city, the Comuna and is a well known face in that area. He knows the stories behind the graffitis. People stay focussed while he is telling all the information. He feels responsable for the group and likes to talk with everyone, he is genuily interested in you!
We liked the tour and we recommend it definitely!
If you have the possibility to do the tour with Esteban, you’ll not regret it.

You won't find a better tour of Comuna 13! I have been on 3 tours of Comuna 13 with Zippy Tours and each time have been blown away by the passion of the guides to share their story, their community, and their hope for the future. All of Zippy Tours guides grew up in Comuna 13 and do a masterful job of weaving together the history of the region with their own personal history. Both Stiven and Yulieth's passion for the renewal of their community was palpable and inspiring. You will not find a more personally moving tour. It is difficult to find a tour that is a mix of educational and exciting and this tour does just that - I walk away with a much more complete understanding of the complicated and troubled history, while also feeling the energy of the neighborhood as a result of the social investment in escalators, the breakdancing and freestyle rap scene, and the beautiful art. Both Stiven and Yulieth spoke masterful English and I simply can't recommend Zippy Tours enough! Thank you Zippy, Stiven, and Yulieth!

We booked a ‘free’ walking tour of comuna 13 with Zippy based on good online reviews. However we were really disappointed. At time of booking we were told it would be a ‘small group’ but it ended up being 30 people with one guide. This meant that we often could hear and it ended up taking a long time to get everyone gathered etc at each stop. The local guide would have been ok if the group size was around 10 people (as it seems most other tours are) but it seems like they are just being greedy with the numbers. It also seemed like the guide didn’t want to go into detail when asked certain questions and preferred to keep to a set script.
We also found the meeting point for the tour a bit chaotic. Zippy didn’t have our booking details and we’re hard to find with lots of similar coloured umbrellas and t-shirts. There is also no shade at the meeting point so best not to turn up too early!
We would recommend going with a paid tour with guaranteed maximum size since it will be be up costing you the same since obviously the ‘free’ tours expect a decent tip and you might get a large group like we did.

We are so sorry for your experience, recently we had to change our uniform because too many "guides" were wearing a similar (ill-intentioned people), when you took the tour, it was a high season, Normal number of people in a group is around 20 people, that day your group was bigger and we are sorry for that but in Comuna 13 there are few certificated tour guides in English.
There are places with shade and we are pretty sure we showed the place where you can wait for us while we organize the list, about the cost, you are wrong about the information of the price, a private tour is more expensive if you compare with a tip, a tip is around 7 - 10USD per person while a private tour is 45 -50 USD, Finally our group is the best tour of Comuna 13 and this review will help us to improve.

We heard good things about Zippy Comuna 13 Tour but we're not impressed when we arrived a few minutes after 10 am due to a delay in the Metro and the tour guides had left. We were not alone as another group who had also booked with Zippy were also left behind. The local guides from other companies outside the meeting area informed us that the Zippy guides had left early even though Zippy denies it. Our concern is that delays can happen but there was no attempt by Zippy to reach out to us or a number to call to them in case of emergency, delay etc. This can raise SAFETY concerns for visiting tourists if attendance is not taken or accommodations for delays are not in place. Could there not have been a Zippy rep there to assist us in joining the departed group instead of living us on our own? All worked out for the best in the end as we found a local English speaking tour guide who was independent. HE offered to take us for 20 mil pesos each and we ended up have a 3+ hour tour that was informative and fun!

Unfortunately you didn't arrive "few minutes late"
We left at 10 :08 am and you were no there, last night we send you an email "Be on time at the meeting point (10 min before), you arrived after 10, it is impossible don't see our groups, always we have a big blue umbrella "Zippy Tour Comuna 13" and 20 people in every group, you don't have evidence the other tourists have a booking with us, many people arrive without reservation, you just want to make your excuse for lack of punctuality, you need to respect the time of others, Finally we had 2 bookings with your name and your email with differents days , you didn't arrive the first time and you never cancel your booking and you did other booking online and you arrived late, that is not ok.

We met the tour guides by the metro where we had time to buy some water before setting off. Our guide Stiven, was amazing and very passionate about the story of Comuna 13, having grown up in the area himself. He told stories of the past of Comuna 13 and the upwards path it is still on today. We felt safe at all times and he did well to keep the group together (even though it was quite large). Saw some amazing graffiti and some cool street dancing at the top.
Would 100% recommend as a must do for anyone visiting Medellin.

We were told comuna 13 was a must see when visiting Medellin. So, we booked a tour and met our guide Esteban at the meeting tour. He grew up in the neighborhood, speaks English flawlessly and told us about the history of Colombia, Medellin and his neighborhood with an endless amount of energy and passion. We learned, walked and loved the graffitis and this tour in general.

We started the tour at the train station and everything was clearly organized, we started just 15 minutes later after the appointment time. Steven was the best tour guide gave so many details about what has been the transformation of this series of Comunas. What was then what is now and what they are hoping to be in years to come. You can feel that he loves his job and is happy to share and answer aaaaany questions, and best of all he lives there we even ended the tour at his house!
The tour was not hard at all but some people with mobility issues might not be suitable.

I did the walking tour this morning and it absolutely blew my mind. Stiven was my guide and I can't recommend this more, don't want to give much away, but it was extremely professional, educational, inspirational and emotional. This is an absolute must do even if you are from Colombia or Medellin, it made me fall in love with the city and see it in a way that I had not expected to. Bravo to the Zippy Tour team and the people of Comuna 13 that care so much about their city and neighborhood and are working to make the changes in the right way. Also can't believe it's free - please make sure to tip your guides well, they very much deserve it!

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Steven's guided tour in the park of comune 13 after shamelessly walking away from another tour that was below our expectations. The young man talking with such great intensity about the social issues of the area C13 turned out to be one of it's inhabitants, and we were about to find out that the tour consisted of historical info intertwined with a bunch of his very personal experiences that greatly contributed to the understanding of what "comuna trece" actually is. We consider ourselves lucky to have come across this tour, since Steven offered such a unique perspective and managed to send an important message to a large group of people,thus I highly recommend it.

Would like to do the tour tomorrow Aug 5th. Front desk of hotel told us it is too dangerous at this time and should not go. Can someone please advise the status of this statement? Was really hoping to join the tour tomorrow!

This’s absolutely safe there, I feel comfortable with a guide. She actually lives there still. My son who was working at the time in Medellin went there by himself and felt safe during a day. I’d enjoyed it a lot.

We are a family on 5 persons who arrived to Medellin this afternoon. Is it possible to come on a Comuna 13 walking tour tomorrow Friday or maybe Saturday morning ? The booking on the net dosn’t work.

There is not limit.
You should go to the meeting point and they will be there with blue shirts.
They also have spanish and english tours.
