Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Once inspirational, Comuna 13 now disrespects the great street art that helped put the barrio on the road to recovery years ago. I have visited the area for years and recently was appalled to see how badly it has deteriorated in just the last couple years. The art is now obscured and in some cases damaged by wall to wall vendors, motorcycles snd garbage bags piled up against it. Much of it is fading and chipping away, with no maintenance and very little new art materializing. The area has taken on a tacky, overwhelmingly commercial vibe, leaving the art as merely incidental, if not entirely ignored. My advice is to skip this “ attraction” until/unless it revives its remarkable roots.

For me, a visit to the Comuna 13 is a must when visiting Medellin. The whole place is a lesson in redemption and change. These paisas were incredibly creative when planning this project. You will enjoy music, food and art. It's a party atmosphere!

I found the half day we spent in Communa 13 incredibly interesting and rewarding. We had a guided tour of tge Commuba and learned a lot about it's history.
The escalators are a brilliant way to explore the area and have really opened up the communa to visitors and the rest of the city.
If you told ne before I went that a set of escalators would be one of the highlights of my tine in Medellin, I'd have laughed! But they were!
The place is so vibrant, so colourful, so energetic, and the escalators have had a huge effect on the place.
Amazing views of the city and a great place to visit.

This is now a busy tourist spot - too busy at weekends I suspect. Old favela (v dangerous) now transformed with souvenir shops, cafes and break dancing kids.
This is a dramatic representation of the change in Medellin over a very few years.

You don't have to leave Medellin. I suggest going with a guide who can give you some of the history surrunding Comuna 13. Great views as you ascend. Good way to spend a few hours. Recommend trying of the local food vendors. You won't believe how much food you get for $3...and delicous.

We all really enjoyed the visit here. We found a guide outside the metro station (Mel) and she did a really great job. She took us to a great but inexpensive place to eat, found us a place to sit and have a beer while we waited out a rainstorm, and gave us a very good tour. The art is cool and the history interesting.

Many of the shops and food vendors were blasting their music at high volume levels. It spoiled the atmosphere, so I left sooner than I otherwise would have.
Also, the vendors should show their prices. I don't want to bargain with a vendor in a language I don't speak or understand.

This is a definite must when traveling to Medellin. LOTS of typical souvenir items but the graffiti, street performers, and general vibe are fascinating. There is a REALLY good restaurant at the very top, called Berracas de la Trece. Please go. The plates of food are humongous and delicious!!!

A súper experience, everywhere you look there’s something colorful happening. Didn’t stop taking pictures and it’s very easygoing as it’s all electrical stairs so you can really enjoy. Don’t forget to hop into some of the cool art galleries an the way!

At first I didn't understand the appeal of the Escaleras. But after visiting them and reaching the top of Comuna 13, I completely get it. Not only do they offer you an incredible view of Medellin, but they take you to a tourist hot spot. The top is filled with venders, shops, galleries, restaurants, and an abundance of street performers.

Se puede ir sin guía
En que horario es recomendado ir
Written 30 January 2018

Yes,I believe they are open every day. The escaleras are used by the residents to access their homes located in a hilly area. During my visit some sections were closed for repairs so I used the steps, not the escalator.
