Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This church also doubled as a museum! As the oldest church in Cali, it is still 80% of its original structure!! It has a quaint little pre Colombian museum offering beautiful pottery to ink rollers used for body painting. The alter is absolutely gorgeous. It’s very intricate in its detail and is definitely worth the peek inside. The security guard was very helpful in translating a little from English to Spanish for me. For about $4,000 pesos you can enter the museum. The church is free, just don’t walk in if mass is going on.

The church and the entire complex La Merced is very nice from outsite. It is a pity that it is closed to the public.

The church is the original 16th century founding church of Cali along with the museum next door. Unfortunately virtually everything else of historical worth in the surrounding area has been destroyed and replaced by unkempt 1960´s monstrosities that are covered in graffiti and which make New York slums almost attractive.
The church itself is very simple, but gives a good insight into life then and the surrounding slums possibly reflect how the Government of Cali behaves today.
It is possible to stop the car for the 10 minutes it takes to have a look, but beyond the very small museum next door there is little to appreciate.

This is a popular church, in a beautiful old district, and the most stunning piece is the richly decorated altar. It is frequently used for weddings, and if you are lucky you can catch a ceremony complete with music. It also has an interesting museum but it is closed on Sundays when I visited.

This is a very old church in town with a worth seeing because of its barroco structura and its decoration. Lots of locals choose to get married at this place because of its beauty.

There is a local saying : don't get married here - we all do- you'll surely get divorced.
Anyways, the place is beautifully restored, authentic, has a beautiful decoration and 2 very good museums you can visit. Also you can buy crisp, fresh wafer clippings by the bagful which are delicious.

This antique church and monastery is an iconic historical attraction at the end of the walking tour of the gold and indigenous cultural exhibits and interpretive centers and museums of archeology of the Cauca Valley of the Andes mountains where Cali is located in Colombia.
