very large statue like the others of Mao. Nothing great to see. If you miss this one, there are others just like it.

I walked past this statue every day for two years and only once stopped to take a look at it. Although it represents something monumental and crucial to the history of China it has very little information surrounding the statue about what Chairman Mao achieved,...More

This is the equivalent of Nelson's column in London or the Washington monument in USA. A great photo opportunity and worth a visit, especially as there is not much else to do in Chengdu, apart from seeing the pandas.

Not much to say about this. It's a statue of Mao! The area around here is a nice place for a simple walk to take in the sights and watch the people!

Okay, the statue is not as big as I expected, but it's big and there are lots of police around to protect him...from what? But there he is looking benevolent and keeping a close eye on the latest capitalistic ventures going up all around him!...More

Once these statues were at the centre of all cities. Still here in Chengdu. It's big, that's about it. Running joke is not even Mao can get a taxi in Chengdu

This is a good place for a short stop to take a photo of this massive statue. It gives an insight into how much some people revered him when he ruled China. Western food is available in the underground shopping mall.
