Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I really liked the monastery, although there were a lot of tourists on holidays. In the evening we managed to stay for the monks to pray. The area of the monastery is quite large, there are beautiful well-kept gardens, several halls with Buddha statues. Outside the monastery you can buy souvenirs, there are also many restaurants around and street food is sold

I state that my judgment is probably dictated by the fact that we came here after having already seen many things in China as well as in Chengdu itself, but I did not find the place of particular interest .. there was nothing that particularly caught me .. The only difference from other places is that this is used as a place of worship by the population, which you will find here in line to make their prayers ..

Amazing place for a peaceful walk, not touristy like so many other temples. Free entry, just had to show green code. Lots of little buildings and walk ways to go around. You can light a candle in memory, or for reflection. The exit gate leads you to a beautiful pedestrian street with various small restaurants and shops. Lovely place to sit and relax for a while, feels like a bit of an escape! Note - lots of shops selling embroidery - they might not be as 'local' as they make out!

Spent about 1 hour here and found a great hole in the wall noodle place nearby to cap off a great afternoon. Buildings and statues were beautiful, the area is nice and easy to get to by subway or taxi. Definitely one of the temples / monasteries to see when in Chengdu

The upward point corners of the roof structures especially stand out on the monastery, as if they have been elongated and pointed upward. I don't know id there is any functionality to the design, or just for the sake of being a little different. I know that I have seen this on many ancient buildings in China, but her is looks a little more exaggerated. Nice garden at the monastery.

This might be a bit to high on things to do in chengdu. It is a pretty monastery, but based on how much there is to do in Chengdu, this could be scratched. If you have time check it out, but don’t inconvenience yourself trying to visit.

My family visited there on June 21 afternoon. It’s hidden spiritual Buddhist temple in hustling down town Chengdu. I saw ancient Buddhist architecture and peaceful mind found from Buddha statue and temples. It’s great place to see ancient heritage.

We spent a couple of hours here and really loved this place. It was a highlight in Chengdu. Wenshu Monastery is home to about 80 monks and you can see them I the grounds as you walk around. It’s a huge complex and there are various Buddha statues, different rooms, tea houses and areas to worship. It’s peaceful and beautiful.
We had lunch at the vegetarian restaurant which was excellent and highly recommended.
It’s easy to get to – go to Wenshuyuan station and take exit K. Then as you come out, keep walking ahead along the main road and turn right and you’ll see it. I had heard there is a 5RMB entrance fee but I didn’t see anywhere that was charging this fee.

The monastery is huge but english description is inadequate, which makes it fairly difficult for non-Chinese speakers to understand everything about this place. But don't miss their teahouse and vegetarian restaurant inside, which serve authentic buddhist meal and tea for local people.
There's a shopping street built next to the monastery. It's fairly touristy and commercial, but worth a visit too.

I find myself drawn to Wenshu Temple every time I come to Chengdu.
Over the past nine years it has gone through some significant changes - the closing of the old tea garden (hopefully only temporary), and the elimination of the entrance fee that had to be paid at one of the windows in the wall surrounding the entrance. Still, it has maintained its tranquility and graceful beauty through all.
The women of the Temple are wonderful sources of information about the history and practices that have transpired here for nearly half a millennium. Given time and positive attitude they will take you into some of the off the grid buildings where only the monks are normally permitted. On my last visit, I was able to meet the senior monk and talk with him about the changes in the monastery, as well as some more philosophical questions about Buddhism and dreams for research I was doing on a book. He was gracious and curious about my inquiry. His assistant, a female monk, became my guide for the afternoon, and we exchanged a long conversation about East and West.
As others rightly say, as beautiful as the buildings are, the gardens are where the real magic happens. In warm weather the turtles are in charge. When you realize they are thought to be the reincarnation of old monks returned to their spiritual home, you understand why there is a large statue of a turtle on the grounds.
Be sure to wander to the rear of the gardens to the new temple where the devoted continue to chant, sing, ring bells and drum several times a day. To be near that energy is to clear the mind and feel timelessness envelop you.
