I don't know why it is ranked so low! It is better than Huayan monastery in my opinion. This one has a great gardens, secret places to relax. Great art works of buddhas and similar and it was fairly empty - great opportunity for photos!...More

A highlight of Datong. An amazing example of Tang architecture. The wood carvings are top rate, especially the dozen heavenly kings. The entrance carvings are also well preserved. Don't miss this 1,000 year old or so monastery in Datong

I highly recommend to someone who love Chinese Architecture! It is really great temple. I also recommend to hire a guide for brief introduction. It will highlight the visit.

I think it is a monastery like others in China, but what that make this monastery very significant is wall painting and wood carving. These painting and wood carving deserve this 5 stars. The surrounding area is reconstructed like old Datong and is very beautiful.

I visit a lot of temples and this one is definitely in the top 20% of temples I have visited. It is a well-kept and sympathetically restored compound with some fantastic preserved imagery and frescoes. The temple is highly worthy of a visit and definitely...More
