It is what it is, a temple built on the side of a mountain. On the same trip I also went up the close by mountain and hiked for 3 hours. THAT hike was awesome. There were several temples and monasteries built on that mountain....More

Bhutan has Tiger Tops, China has the hanging temple outside of Datong. Over 1500 years old and precariously hanging off of a cliff. An absolute must see while traveling through China. 5 Stars!!

The hanging temple is one of the most incredible sites near the Datong area. I would recommend you go early in the morning to avoid crowds since it is a tight squeeze in the actual temple. The site itself is absolutely incredible steeped in history.

Come here in winter and you will have all of temple for yourself, no tourist and also no souvenir shops or restaurants open.

not that we are aware of there may be restrictions as to how many can go up at a time, but you can go up as many times as you want. There are other areas below that you can visit also.
