After spending three days in the villages of Qiinghai visiting family, we made our way back to Haiku and checked back into the same hotel. Our first visit for dinner was to the snack street. So, this was not really like a Night market kinda snack street but really a big food court. With a variety of food availabile.

There is local fair as well as international options. For example, there was a guy selling indian roti as well. In the 3 days we were here, we had a few meals here including breakfast. Breakfast options included Dim Sum, Indian Roti, Beef Noodles and congee. Taste wise all were pretty decent.

No cash transactions here. Either pay by Wechat/Ali pay or purchase a stored value card at the main counter.

i would recommen this place for anyone who is looking for variety options at a single location.

Tried the Beijing Gyoza, pork chee cheong fun (猪肉猪肠粉) which i really liked! Also tried coconut steamed rice and coconut jelly which I find average..

They also sell food like mango shelks, chill cooked snails, cuttlefish skewers, mango and coconut desserts etc. At the Gyoza stall, there's an Indian man making roti prata as well!

Interesting place worth a visit.

To the left and just beside qilou food street, there's another food street to explore :)

Tip: At qilou, you pay for food using a reloadable card, you can purchase this from the card sale counter. Can put in any amount, note that 10 yuan will be charged as card deposit which is refundable when you return the card.

A lot of variety of food being sold there e.g. Wenchang Chicken, Jiaji Duck, Baoluo Noodle and many others also, the price is also resonable, to note that all this variety of food is on the ground floor, as for 2nd and 3rd floor is resturent, as the 2nd floor you have the buffet style, if the ground floor food is CMI you may try the 2nd floor. As for enviroment is consider not bad for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Many different food choices and most are prepared to order so very fresh and warm. Need to buy food card before you can order any food from any of the many food sellers. We bought food from 5-6 different sellers and enjoyed it all. Prices were very low so a real bargain.

I think there is some confusion with Qilou Old Street and this Qilou XiaoChi Jie. They are quite a distance away. It is misleading in Tripadvisor to see the photo of Qilou XiaoChi Jie used as the photo for Qilou Old Street. Qilou Old Street is located at Zhongshan Road and the adjoining lanes and it comprises streets of old buildings built by the overseas Chinese. The main theme at the Old Street is the unique architectural styles of the old buildings. But in Qilou XiaoChi Jie, the main theme is food.

I stayed at Home Inn Donghu Hotel and it took me about 20 mins of walking to visit this attraction. You can get lost of the direction but most locals will be able to re-direct you to the place if you ask around.

Before I came to Hainan, I made research on this Qilou XiaoChi Jie and had the impression that it is like our food court in Singapore with a diversified range of food. But I was disappointed to see that it was more of restaurant food when I visited it in the daytime. I think evening and night time are the most appropriate time to visit to see more snack stalls at this Snack street.

Personally, I found the cost of living in Haikou generally higher than those in Yunnan, Shandong and Sichuan. In Kunming, I could still get a bento set meal of RMB12 with vegetables and meat but it was not so in Haikou, Sanya and Wenchang. Here, a bento set is usually around the range of RMB20 and above.

Nevertheless, I must compliment that the old buildings were well refurbished and maintained and the ambience conducive for eating. Food wise, The Snack Street is also located beside the Tailong Mall where you will find cluster of stalls selling Taiwanese snacks. In fact, I spent more time at Tailong Mall than at the Qilou Snack Streets.

You should not miss the Tailong Mall and this XiaoChi Jie if you are in Haikou.

Haikou is a very boring city. I would recommend skipping it altogether, regretted spending 3 days here, should have headed straight for Sanya.

However if you find yourself having some spare time, then this is probably one of the better attractions to visit. There is a good variety of different food in the food courts inside, however I must say that it isn't to my liking.

Was very disappointed with Wenchang Chicken, as I personally feel that Singaporean Hainanese Chicken rice is much nicer tasting than Wenchang Chicken. The other dishes I tasted didn't stand out to me in any way as well (coconut rice, noodles, seafood)

Food prices was reasonable, but certain dishes cuisine needs to improve freshness. Quite a nice ambience. Oyster is fresh and cheap.

It has become a tourist centric food court. Don't be fooled by what they pride as local delicacies. There isn't anything that screams Hainanese here. Even the locals avoid to eat here.

This place is very quiet, slow and dead when we were there - around tea time in August.
It is basically a Food Court where different stalls selling the various food/snack/desserts.
Although the stalls were opened, there were not many patrons there.
You can find most popularly recommended food of Sanya and Haikou here but strangely the business is quite slow.

Outside this building, there are some brands shop around it like Miniso, etc.
