For those interested in the history of Magellan this is an interesting statue to see. When you experience the waters of Cape Horn and the Atlantic and Pacific oceans it is amazing that anyone would have attemped crossing them in small wooded boats.

This entry should be merged with the other entry on TripAdvisor for the same monument. Like all Punta Arenas' monuments, this needs either good plaques depicting the history and significance of the monument or a local guide. It is centrally located in the mail square.

There is a large statue here to honor Magellan, the great explorer. There are benches where you can sit and rest but beware the pesky pigeons if you are having a picnic lunch! There are stalls nearby selling local handcrafts. On the day we visited...More

Statue to honour the Portuguese sailor in the service of Charles I. His voyage around the world contributed largely to the power of Spain in the 16th century.

An impressive statue of a Magellan in a small park in the central area. I like how he's facing toward the Strait. The park is a good place to sit and watch locals and tourists alike. Across the street is the Palacio Sara Braun. Easy...More

It's just a statue...not much else. Doesn't even make a really good picture. Not much to do in this small town.

This nice historic statue is located in the centre of the Plaza De Armas right in the town square. It is a nice place to relax as there are many matured trees and benches for you to sit. It a reminder of the sacrifices this...More

The statue is in the middle of the town where everyone gathers. Touch the toe of the statue and it's supposed to bring you good luck.

Grand stature of the monument. Took some shots of it and I wished the day was a bit more sunny and making the shot more crisp.
