Took my family on a private guided tour of Humberstone and Santa Laura. Both places are incredibly interesting and also well maintained. A guide is highly recommended to make the most of the visit. I went with Atacama Desert Trails.

I am probably biased after driving for 7.5 hours and spending $600 to see the two salitreras, but I was hoping to be able to walk around and take unique photos of dilapidated rooms. The problem is, this place is UNESCO-listed and it's safe. You...More

well preserved, well interpreted UNESCO World Heritage site. Worth a visit if you are traveling in the north of Chile. Shows the life of this company town and we learned a lot about how mining served the economy of Chile.

This is more of a huge museum. Some of the area have been restored, and some is left natural. You can access most all of the areas. Renting a car in Iquique and driving yourself is best, since we were there during three waves of...More

This World Heritage Site of one of the largest Chliean nitrate processors. It will a very good idea of how the workers and their bosses lived and worked there, especially considering the desert location with the heat during the day.

Interesting place if you have the time (40 minute journey by collectivo from the central market, and to get back to Iquique you have to flag down a bus from the main highway). It's 4000 pesos to visit and we took about 2 hours at...More
