- Ana-Maria BCluj-Napoca, Romania1,353 contributionsSmaller, but worth seeingWhile not impressive as other sites, it is still worth seeing. The trips there on the long bridge surrounded by lotuses is quite an experience in itself. Do get a guide or a guidebook, without it, I would have missed the horse statue and its story.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 17 December 2023

Despite its small size, this temple's simple tower on a picturesque island, encircled by serene pools of water, creates a captivating sight. What sets this place apart is its location on an island within a vast baray, offering a unique and tranquil experience. The stunning reflections on the water make it an absolute photographer's paradise, and I was particularly impressed when I captured the aerial view. This hidden gem in the middle of an island is an absolute must-visit. I wholeheartedly recommend exploring Neak Poan temple for a memorable and enchanting experience.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 8 February 2024

The temple is an artificial island with a small Hindu temple on it. At the base of the island are two snakes that surround the island. We liked that the scenery was unique from the other templesVisited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 11 February 2024
- AethelredCambridge, Massachusetts1,337 contributionsGorgeous monument to and of free public health for allIn the sophisticated public health system of the great Dhammaraja Jayavarman VII, the complex water basins of Neak Pean, the artifical Entwined Serpents island, represents a reflection of cosmology, spiritual powers of the water, but not least water therapy in a balneological, genuinely spa-related way. A fantastic, gorgeous monument to and of free public health for all, as it should be, from the 12th/13th century - and a great challenge for public policy today, everywhere. Touristically, I think a must visit for the non-touristy tourists because of the lovely access bridge and the entire setup of an artificial island in an artificial lake.Visited February 2024Travelled on businessWritten 19 April 2024

Right between the temples of "Ta Som" and "Preah Khan", you will find "Neak Pean" - a square pool with, at its center, like an island, a fountain built, in the 12th century, by King Jayavarman VII, the famous "builder" king of the Khmer empire. This island - floating just like a blossoming lotus - is encircled, at its base, by two mythical naga serpents and comprises five ponds and a small temple. "Neak Pean" represents the Himalayan mountains and the sacred Anavatapta lake, symbolizing Lord Buddha conquering the glory of Nirvana. Here, in past times, royal princesses would bring their precious offerings of gold and exotic perfumes. Amazing legends ... Visiting "Neak Pean" is not a must, but it is interesting and not so crowded as other "Grand Circuit" temples in the Angkor complex. Enjoy!

One has to cross the North Barat reservoir on a makeshift yet strong bridge to reach here. Situated in the Angkor Archaeological Park area, this temple circuit is a sight to behold. One can visit all four corners of the temple which is in the shape of a cross, and capture the temple's breathtaking photos from four different angles. When the Cambodian golden sun shines bright , the reflection of the serpent temples on the adjoining waterbody is surreal. A must-see!

We went to this temple on our third day in Siem Reap after doing the sunrise tour on our first day. We hired a tuk tuk who took us to some temples.
This one was probably my favourite of the smaller temples absolutely beautiful, you have to walk for about 20-30 mins over a walkway over water and at the end you see this beautiful temple set in the middle of water.
Definitely would suggest to visit here if you can, beautiful

Together with 24 other Anglo-Thai Society members, my wife and myself visited Neak Pean Temple yesterday morning.
The approach (wooden pedestrian bridge across the lake) promised much but on arrival there was - particularly, compared to the many other magnificent Temples in the complex - very little to see. I, for one, will not be paying a return visit!!

Neak Poan temple is one of my favorite place to visit. Water surrounding on the entrance and the temple inside is like an island. History temple with natural views and we felt good to be here.

Different to other nearby temples, being laid out around reflecting pools. With a central tower.
You can't walk the full way around. A little under half the path around the pools is closed temporarily. This doesn't detract from the site.
Originally, there were four sculptures in the lake. Only one, a horse, remains.

Neak Paon Temple...... Is really like island floating around floating forest. Before it's used to be hospital of the king from Khmer empire. ...now a day people who living around here still believe about that was hospital of king..... High recommend

How long is the walk? It looks interesting getting there.

If you are dropped off in the car park, then it's about 15 minutes across the causeway. It's definitely worth going to and spending some time there. The view across the channel is wonderful
