Super big market. No one is walking, most of the locals bike into the market when they are marketing. Only tourists and sellers walks. Means constant lookout for motorbikes while we are "marketing cum sightseeing". Not suitable for young children.

If you must, waste time at just one tourist market. This is the real deal. Cambodia going about its daily business in the local's marketplace. Amazing array of fresh vegetables, meats, fish and bugs. Edible bugs, not the type you don't want to see in a supermarket. And the garment section- AMAZING! Colors that will remind you of your first box of crayolas.

And photo opportunities. Did you know Cambodians don't mind and often enjoy you taking pictures of them going about their everyday lives? This is the place to get something more than just photos of carved stones to show your friends.

Feels very safe too. I'd suggest 1-2 hours if you like to take photos.

If you come to Siem Reap and want to truly see how the locals live this market is a must see. I did not see any tourists the entire time I wandered around. To me, this market is vastly superior than the touristy Night Market in just about every respect

The market sells just about anything you can think of from jewelry to household items to all the fresh and cooked food you can imagine. It is a fascinating view of local life.

We ate lunch at a local food stall. The spring rolls were home made and probably the best we had in Cambodia. For a little food stall, the service was just great, friendly and accommodating. For dinner, we bought a variety of food, including grilled stuffed frogs, brought it back to our hotel and feasted. Try the snails, in France you would pay a lot of €'s for half a dozen, here you get a bowl full for the price of a soda. This is truly local delicious food at its best.

The vendors were friendly and amused at my staring at things I could not quite figure out.

If you want to see local life and eat real local food, the Leu Market is something not to be missed.

Our first experience in Phsar Leu was with the Siem Reap Food Tour's morning tour. It was a great tour and I highly recommend it! The next morning we went back to Phsar Leu to take our time wandering around the stalls and visiting a few of our favorite spots from the morning before. The market is a little overwhelming on your senses and keep an eye out for the motorbikes and even cars that try to squeeze down the narrow market walkways. If you have a weak stomach for market smells I highly recommend visiting in the morning before it gets too hot. The people are overall very friendly and warm up to a smile very quickly. There's a woman who was cutting up jackfruit and selling it by the kg near one of the outdoor corners who was super nice and very helpful. There's also a woman on the inside selling rice noodle and fried rice ball dishes that are delicious.

Overall, a great place to come and see authentic Cambodian shopping, a great place for photography, and a fun place to wander around for a few hours!

Visited this market on a shopping expedition as a part of our cooking class with the amazing Mork Mengly head chef and co-owner of Pou Restaurant and Bar (see reviews). In addition to buying for the restaurant, because of Mork’s familiarity and fluency, we were able taste the one-off juices we would not have known where to find as well as the traditional rice flour cakes (true name of which I cannot remember) and several other unique items. I recommend this market for a true look at the culture of Cambodia. Isn’t that why we visit most local markets in most countries? I think because of my particular language barrier, the visit was much enhanced by having a guide and a purpose.

This wet market is far removed form the likes of the tourist oriented "Old Market". This is your classic neighbourhood market, a riot of noise, colour, people and pungent smells.

For spices, fresh curry pastes and the freshest vegetable imaginable, it is a destination, not to be missed. An abundance too of exceptionally cheap street food stalls: roasted banana and sticky rice, caramelised yams and sweet potato to name a few.

Approach your visit with an open mind and find out how the real Cambodia lives.

I am familiar with the colors and scents of outdoor markets in Central and South America.
Psar Leu market is different, they sell cooked insects, gold jewelry, as well as produce and merchandise.
The large bowls filled with cooked insects appealed to the child in me but I passed them up. Signet language skills allowed me to purchase fruit and photograph the market.Cambodia accepts dollars, just make sure that the bills are not torn or damage.

We love exploring local market, so we couldn't miss the opportunity to see this huge local market in Siem Reap. It is located around 5 mins from the central Siem Reap, this local market is one of the large wet market in the area.
The dry food is the first thing we saw when we reached the market, a wide range of variety of dry goods. The real bizarre thing is that there are many gold and jewellery shops in the market, and they are just a few steps away from fresh meat and vegetables. You can find every parts of a pig displaying on the stores, and many different types of seafood.
This is so different from what we were used to. The market is hot, wet with flies flying around. But you can see the smiling faces from the locals.
