- KeenTraveller12372Sydney, Australia545 contributionsTHIS IS WHY I AM HEREAnother day tour provided by Vacation Indo China Travel Only had time to see 3 temples Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm also a visit to the Terrace of Elephants and The Terrace of the Leper King Personally I could spend a day a temple but only had a day excluding lunch. To be able to see these amazing structures from 12th if not earlier centuries is amazing they are all rabbit warrens but watch ones step as many uneven surfaces. To be a witness to the amazing carvings that adorn the walls of the temples to climb the stairs that the ancients once stepped to appreciate the intricacies of the carvings with the tools of the day and all still visible today just amazing There is a tethered balloon so that one can see Angkor Wat from a height but this was not part of my tour and had no time to detour. The stories that the walls relate are amazing and more than a day is required to explore . Highly recommend this visit .Am so glad that I visited now post Covid as one can see that at the height of tourism the number of people would be prohibitive and limit ones access to a lot of the temples. To see the extent of tree coverage is amazing. I also attended a sunrise to Ankgor Wat but the clouds had other ideas none the less to see the day arise was just as amazing and the people so many more than the day before. As usual when returning to bus one must run the gauntlet of market sellers you decide.Visited November 2022Written 5 December 2022
- Aimless VagabondsGurugram (Gurgaon), India69 contributionsThe core of every Cambodia Trip, plan wisely to make it a more memorable one.Undoubtedly the highlight of every tourist's Cambodia visit. This is a spectacle! Since there are a million reviews of the temple, here's some pointers that may help. 1.People watch the sun rise at the temple so start as early as you can so you have enough time to buy tickets and then head to the temple to get a good spot experience the sun rise. 2. Try visiting the Angkor National Museum before you head to the temple, that way it makes way more sense. 3. Not all tour guides here speak good English/ Spanish/French, so ensure you speak to them before you decide to hire one.Visited November 2022Written 6 December 2022
- scottsnew1151 contributionsAmazing of course, but ruined with all the hawker stallsI was here in 2001, 2002, and 2004. If you have not been here you really must see it. Sadly when I last visited 18 years ago, there were only maybe a few dozen hawkers in the whole ancient city of Angkor, and one string of maybe 15 or 20 locally priced restaurants near the Bayon. Now there are MANY MANY HUNDREDS of hawker stalls all throughout the ruins, and scores of overpriced restaurants, with prices in the $6-$7 range. Pro-tip. you can bargain down the overpriced meals to $4 each, and less for something like fried rice. It's really sad to see how commercialized it has become, it really ruined my experience this time around. There is no need for this many hawkers all selling the same exact things.Visited November 2022Written 7 December 2022

- Reza SattarzadehMuscat, Oman2,221 contributionsAmazing PlaceDefinitely the most incredible place I visited in my entire trip to Cambodia was Angkor Wat. As a history enthusiast, this place absorbs you so much that you do not feel like leaving it, even after a few hours of staying there. The whole complex is full of amazing stories of the once very powerful empire which rules that region of Asia. It is very easy to get lost, so either have a guide or pay attention to the signs. The whole complex has many temples, and only a limited number of them can be visited just in one day. Overall, if you travel to Cambodia, you should not miss Angkor Wat.Visited May 2022Written 22 December 2022
- Mark SHereford, United Kingdom599 contributionsInteresting and the ‘must do’ in Siem ReapAllow a day to do the three main temples, with Angkor Wat being the final event. The COVID effect is still being felt so visitor levels were low meaning we could comfortably explore without any queues or crowds. Lots of great sights and photo opportunities. Take plenty of water as it gets hot out there!Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 23 December 2022

A true wonder of the world, this temple (or temple city more like) is remarkably well preserved and you can truly get a sense of its scale - from the massive grand moat on entry, the outer walls, and the 5 towers in the centre with their lotus flower shaped design. It is awe-inspiring. We did not bother waking up at dawn for the sunrise photo, but it was spectacular enough to see during the middle of the day. Recommend climbing the towers in the centre for those who are not afraid of heights, you get great views out in all directions.

Amazing place & definitely not to be missed. Even visiting during the day when quite busy still a fabulous place to visit. So many temples over a large area so impossible to see them all in one day but it is mind blowing!

Its a great experience. You have to be there at about 5 in the morning in Nov to find a spot and watch the colors. Also if you have many days available use a cloud forecast to chose the best one for viewing.

A wonderful piece of Cambodian history. We went at sunrise but the cloud cover prevented great pictures. What it DID provide was a respite from the heat so I really recommend going early. The steps to the temple of the gods was daunting but totally worth doing. I learned so much here.

Angkor wat on 26th November 2023 was full of tourists both local and foreigner, Cambodian celebrate the water festival therefore many people. This world temple was built in late 12 century for lord Vishnu the Hindu religion. It's the largest one in the world so recommend visit with tour guide you can see all the best spot and in addition you have gotten the angle photos.

We got up at 4 am to arrive in time to watch the sun rise. Our guide suggested staying outside the moat for a long distance view without the crowds and it was very quiet and peaceful as the stars faded and the dawn light filled the sky slowly revealing the temple.
It is an awesome place well worth visiting. Getting there early means that it isn’t too hot yet as well if you are not used to the Cambodian heat.

I have heard that some sites are limiting tourist visits. I’m planning a Jan 24 trip. Is this something I should be concerned about? Would hiring a guide help ?

Same as previous response. Arrange a guide through your hotel (whom will help arrange you buy the permit). We went in April 23 and it was fantastic.

On day 3, will you go back to Temples or start back to Bangkok? Roughly what time would we expect to get back to the city?

Yes, there is one area with steep steps at the back of the compound in which you can see the view from the top, but it is in no way mandatory to do. The steps up to the first floor if I remember correctly are a little high but are in no way near as challenging as the ones I mentioned previously.
Also, you don't have to necessarily go inside the compound as the walk around it is plenty beautiful as well. There are quite a few gorgeous temples in the immediate area that don't have many steps either like Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm.

Has anyone visited more recently than Graham G below? Whilst not wanting to scaremonger I do worry about being packed into a crowded tourist site with visitors who may have come from countries where Coronovirus is prevalent. Very grateful for an update on bio security at the site from those who work there or who have visited in the past few days.

Hello, we’re just there yesterday. Empty sites everywhere. You will still encounter small handful westerners tourists and asians. We took lots of good pictures with blank (no tourists) passing behind you. Still take precautions, wash your hands often, sanitized your hands/ lunch table/ utensils.

We did 3 temples in one day and that was a good taste of that experience for us. $100US for a driver and guide, air conditioned car and water. The admission fee is $37US per person.
Hi, when did you travel to Ang Kor Wat? If on Feb 2020, how was the situation there after the CoronoVirus outbreak? Do you feel still safe to travel to Cambodia? Please advise as we had booked everything last year for next week travelling but still thinking whether to postpone or cancel the trip.

We went Monday for 1 night...of course the outbreak is still apparently fast moving but we saw few signs. We're back in Thailand now and face masks are much more in evidence here. Angkor Wat was packed with visitors from all parts of the globe with no suggestion of a slow down. We were fastidious with hand wipes etc as per normal when handling cash etc We passed thru temp scanners at both airport and train stations but that's all...enjoy!
