Yes...you have to go. It will be hot, crowded, a lot of walking and climbing stairs but you have to go. As a world heritage site it seems that that alone will convince you and it is worthy of the designation. Spend the day there and you will still only see a part of it and the surrounding temples. Beautiful temples. You need to visit this over two days or so. Buy the three day pass, you can use it for other national parks or temples anyway. Must see if you visit Cambodia.

Angkor Wat is the most incredible temple that unfortunately is swarming with people with selfie sticks. I had the misfortune of being behind a Chinese tourist who in the space of 10 mins had taken approx 20 selfies and never once looked or listened to the tour guide pointing out incredible carvings!

Stunning about 8k from town - advice a tuktuk for the day (cheap $15) - I also had a guide which I hadn't planned for but was actually a good choice and not pricey - can see why it is such a tourist distination

We visited Angkor Wat at sunrise - rather skeptical at first but it was truely beautiful and it was great to explore before the heat of the day was at its worst. We had a guide for the temples and found that we enjoyed it so much more because of this - his enthusiasm for the temples and the amazing... More

Great spot. Our guide took us to areas where crowds were less but we still saw all the important bits.

We started our tour of the Temples of Angkor at Angkor Wat as we wanted to get straight into it. It's such a beautiful temple and hard to believe it's been there for as long as it has. It can get very hot and there's not lots of shade so make sure you are prepared with water and sun cream.... More
