We drove from Siem Reap past temples, orchards, paddy fields and small villages to the mountain. Its a great trip and the carvings are well worth the walk. We saw dozens of butterflies species 3 species of damsel fly and 1 dragon fly. Beside the waterfall we found a red tailed skink. It waved its vivid red tail to attract... More

Not exactly what i expected. We actually went in April. Prepare to hike uphill in hot and humid weather. There is quite a bid of shade. Make sure to keep hydrated. She will find some great carvings in the rock along the way. We traveled with my parents and sister-in-law. It took us about half day round trip. If you... More

We loved this hike and the carvings. It is definitely worth the travel time to get here. The walk up to the carvings is through jungle and all uphill for over 1.5km. The walk is really beautiful and there are 100s of butterflies of all colours and sizes where ever the sun shines through. There was a young man selling... More

Our trip to Kbal Spean was very interesting and viewing the amazing river rock carvings & waterfall was awesome. The carvings were easy to see and the walk up was enjoyable. We lunched at a restaurant at the bottom afterwards.

Beautiful cravings of different gods, animals and lingas dotted the river bed, rocks at Kbal Spean after an half hour hike up through a forest. The scenes and setting are so different from the other temples. River flowing, breeze, fresh air and tranquility ...... Downdream is a waterfall. On the way is another spot with carvings of different themes. Working... More

Eventually we decided not to go past the park entrance so I can not comment on the main attraction. Because when we arrived with our rented scooters at the park's entrance gate we had to rush to the make it to the 1 p.m. tour at the nearby wild animal rescue center which turned out to be a great experience.... After seeing these carvings in a book I wanted to go so the wife got dragged along. Didn't realise it was a 1500m hike uphill but there are only a few difficult bits to traverse. Took us about half an hour to get to the top where amazingly a lady was sat on a cooler full of ice cold beer... More

Did this today with my younger children. It is certainly not a gentle stroll with a few steep spots but allow around 45 mins/60 mins to get to the top. We nearly missed the waterfall section which is to the left of the arrival point. Luckily a nice bloke at the top called us back was we were returning to... More

Got a 3 day pass and decided to go here on our last day as a bit of change from temples. Had a nice 1.5km hike up a trail which ended with a waterfall running through some carved sections and then lots of carved sections on the riverbed further down. Nice change of scenery from the temples and nice to... More

These wonderful carvings are covered with water for a greater part of the year but can be clearly seen. They are at the ancient headwaters of the water supply to the the great city where Angkor Wat was built. It is well worth the trip and short hike to see these carvings. A day trip could include a visit to... More
