We did the 2 day tour using the 1 day pass as this was the offer at the time. On day 1 we did some of the smaller temples including Eastern Mebon and it was very architecturally pleasing and great to see. It is very similar to Pre Rup. There were much less tourists than Angkor Wat which meant we could walk around freely for ourselves and take any pictures we wanted without any trouble. A great little temple to slot into your itinerary.

A bit blurred in our memory as they all start to blend into one another after a while. Dress modestly, wear suncream and bring water!

This temple is quite similar in style to Pre Rup. A number of elephant statues adorned the lower levels of the terrace. A bit of climbing needed to get to the highest level. Not too crowded - worth a quick visit though nothing too spectacular

This was the second last temple of our two days trip visiting grand and small circuits, and I must say we were quite drained out. The temple is beautiful but quite similar to the other ones that we have visited. Do visit this if you have time but you will not be missing out if you decided otherwise.

This temple precedes the Pre Rup temple which has a very similar architecture and was built during the reign of same king ( Rajendra Varman II in 952AD). The art style of East Mebon is also known as Pre Rup style.
Follows the tiered structure and is built of Laterite. You will need to do some climbing to reach the topmost tier. The Stairways are guarded by Lions and there are monolothic elephants in each corner of first and second tiers.

This one has the innovation for that time and has towers out of bricks, from 10 century. Elephants on each corner, with a high climb to get to the top but worth the Nice view. Was hot and not too much shade. Lions on each entrance.

Which is why it is part of the 2nd day tour.
Still it is a beautiful Temple, but so many others are amazing.
During your 1st day you'll probably see the most interesting, the most impressive and famous Temples: Angkor Wat, then Bayon Temple (with the faces in the walls), then Baphuon, Preah Khan, Ta Keo, Ta Prohm (the liquid trees of Tomb Raider movie) and last Banteay Kdey .

During the 2nd day you'll visit:
Preah Han, Neak Pean, Ta Som, East Mebon (this one), Pre Rup and some other ones.

So to summarize it, as your time is limited at Siam Reap, then I wouldn't recommend going specially to this Temple, Easter Mebon, as there many other places I liked better and which are much more worth of your time, especially if you have only one day...

For all this you'll need a relieable tuktuk driver.
Ours was faultless: punctual, ready to satisfy all needs and questions, we could stop wherever we wanted, always waiting at a good spot and of course giving us cold water even when we didn't need so not be dehydrated. A top notch guy.

Yes, the elephant statues are amazing but I was impressed by the construction techniques. Climb to the top plaza and pay attention to the window openings and lintels. Where they have separated or fallen you will see how the stone windows are fashioned with tongues that fit into mating grooves and lintels have holes that match their posts. There are even "keys" in the stonework that some believe accepted molten iron to lock the stones together.

The ancient Khmer were mast stone builders.
