I was unable to buy anything because the market was too stressful and extremely rowdy. I left with nothing.

Dantokpa boasts of a variety of goods and if you are not careful, you are sure to go above your budget. Loads of colourful and lovely ankara (African prints) to be purchased from here. Be sure to always bargain cos prices quoted are way higher than the sale price.

Marche Dantokpa has everything. Fast moving, feels safe, lots of fabrics. Baguettes & mini doughnuts for sale as you walk around. Prices are quoted higher for Yovo's, so go about ⅓ of what is quoted.

Visited twice during five - day stay in Cotonou. Big and busy. Had a guide to take us to jewellery and fabrics sections. Prices reasonable.

I find this market a bit laid back compared to where I am coming from. Lots of nice Ankara fabrics. The locals are warm and the only challenge may be the language barrier.

Large African styled market. We were able to shop for very nice African fabrics at good price. Not much haggling with the experienced market women who were very pleasant.

Marche Dantokpa is huge. Anything you want, you can find here, but be prepared to walk around. The only way to really appreciate the market is to walk around and see the different vendors and bargain. The best time to go is at the end of the day when vendors really want to sell you can get your best deals.... More
