Local museum gifted by the Besser family, featuring art and the history of Alpena. Fine gallery space and quality older exhibits of Native American activity, geology, and early settlers. Includes a planetarium, a hall of many mounted rare and local animals and other interesting exhibits. Museum architecture reminiscent of Yamasaki's work, a striking 60's modern design. A great stop while... More

Small museum with focus on local history and current local artist exhibits. You can dig for fossils in their Fossil Park and keep what you find!

Besser museaum is a greta place to learn about the history of Alpena. I have been there for several local events and have always enjoyed it. They also have a fossil pit out back that kids will enjoy. If you're new to the area or visiting, Besser is a great place to spend a few hours and learn about what... More

This museum is much more inclusive than others I've visited in much larger cities. In addition to historical exhi it's it encourages local artists, photographers and other local venues to participate. It's absolutely a must-see when you visit Alpena

We spent almost two hours with five adults enjoying every aspect of the museum...often calling to each other to "come and look at this". In each room we would try to identify our favorite display, and it was very difficult. We rarely agreed...a... More

The Besser Museum was full of surprises. We were able to see a very extensive Dali print exhibit and walk along recreated streets of old Alpena. The lower level has an amazing collection of taxidermied animals that are native to Michigan. Our group enjoyed viewing the Besser company exhibit that showed how the company developed and impacted the cement block... More

The museum entertained the family, including a 10 and 7 year old for over 2 hours. The children especially enjoyed looking for fossils outside.
