Beautiful inside and out
Jan. 2020
We went to mass (9am Thursday and Sunday) and got to see it first. Built in the 1600s, it s well decorated but somewhat understated. Some statuary and pan de oro decorate it. No where near as opulent as many Latin American cathedrals. You can also visit it through a tour of the museum.

Wonderful place if you are Catholic!!
Mar. 2019 • Friends
I really had a hard time going here as a Christian - lots of gold, relics, the Mother Mary in all of Her splendor!! There was a major hail storm during our stay and we had to walk through piles of hail-stones when we exited. The Museum of the Church shows how the Spaniards "screwed" the country for centuries prior to independence!!

Stands out at the plaza
May 2018 • Couples
You can't miss this Cathedral because it really does stand out at the plaza with it's beautiful architecture and bells in the tower. We were fortunate to be there when a mass was being said and went inside. It was just as impressive. The side entrance door is very unique.

You'll hear the bells early morning
May 2018 • Friends
Sucre is deeply rooted in the Roman Catholic faith having many churches in the city and the Metropolitan Cathedral is one that stands out above all the rest. Its tower is very impressive and can be seen from many vantage points. There are working clocks on top and the bells rang early every morning! It is across from the main square. We were fortunate to be there one morning when a mass was being said and were able to go inside. It's beautiful and worth a visit.

Closed as of August 2017
Aug. 2017 • Solo
Normally the only way to see the cathedral is by visiting the museum next door, both recommended highlights of Sucre. Alas, both are closed for renovation as of August 2017 and the cathedral isn't even open for services, so there's no way to see it at all until it reopens.

Amazing hymn music playing by a guitar
Feb. 2017
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Sucre is very beautiful and we were very impresive by the hymn music playing by guitar. It was our 1st time for us to listen to hymn music from a guitar but not a piano. We didnot know if guitar will be played every day or piano but it was a special memory in Sucre.

Nice but opens only for Sunday mass
Feb. 2017 • Couples
Unfortunately we were not able to enter inside the cathedral. It only opens for Sunday mass, so any other day you can only see its exterior it from the street.
The exterior facade it's not kept in good conditions and it's a pity that the city is not maintaining it.

In great condition

This cathedral is still in great shape. The outside has been well maintained. Statues on all 4 corners on every level of the clock tower. Worth a photo

Unfortunately the cathedral was not open on my visit to Sucre it was under renovation. From the outside situated on one corner of the plaza it's amazing architecture catches the eye. Capturing some amazing photos day and night. Would love to come back and see inside.
