Something you should do once when in Dubai. Easy location to find. Hilarious watching the camels take off and then you can watch most of the race on big TV’s then about 9 mins later, down they come being chased by 4 wheel drives and then cross the finishing lines. It is definitely an experience and a cool way to spend a couple of hours. Take your own food and water as they don’t sell anything there. Plenty of parking. Enjoy.

I was in town for a short visit during National Day weekend and was looking for a unique local activity. Overjoyed the timing worked out when the camels were racing. More camels than you could count and endless photo opportunities.

Deprioritize the endless malls and touristy activities and make a trip out to the complex...it's such a unique regional experience.

Easily accessible via Uber (or rental car) from the city and free entry and parking. I highly recommend a visit.

We wanted to see the races and were impressed. We were lucky as 5 countries were on hand for the races. There must have been 1000+ camels. We went to the stands which had close circuit TV's so you could watch the whole race as it is quite long. There were free soft drinks and snacks. There were only a couple other people in the stands. Then we went over to the other section and mingled with the camels and handlers. Everyone was friendly and it was one of the best things we did in Dubai. A must do if in Dubai. It is FREE.

We had read about the camel racing and wanted to try it as a taste of the culture to be experienced outside the main city of Dubai.

It was pretty tricky to find out info in advance. So what I learned in case it helps someone else;

- race schedules are not published very far in advance
- the camel club website is in Arabic and it's tricky to find any info in English
- race start times vary
- the club is a pretty long way outside the city
- there are different courses, affecting which bit you need to go to

So.... we had success by asking an Arabic speaking worker at our hotel to phone the camel club for us to check times. We made a mistake by asking what time it opened (6am) rather than what time the first race started (7am) so probably cost ourselves an hour in bed. That said, standing on the hill at the club watching the dawn break over the nearby mosque in the last of the chill desert night was worth a 4.30am alarm call. We were staying close to the marina and it took just under an hour to get there in the early morning (with a very necessary coffee stop).

Entry is free and it's total bedlam, I couldn't imagine seeing so many camels close together and the noise, smell and general atmosphere was something else.

We found that hiring a private car was best. It took away all the worry of getting a taxi one way and not knowing whether you'd get one back OR getting a taxi and having a ticking meter on your mind. If you don't have a car, that would be my suggestion.

We had a terrific time. Our race day was run over 6km and we chose to stand on the bridge over the start line, rather than sit in the grandstand, meaning that we could easily see both start and finish lines and watch the cannon-ball run style cavalcade of jeeps and truck helter-skelter round the track as the camels ran. It was just a brilliant experience. We loved it!

Camel races are a great way to start the day! The recently renovated and expanded Al Marmoum Camel Racetrack now allows for closer viewing of the animals and the race-starts. A new glass-bottom bridge allows for above (and below) viewing of the starting line, as well as a great vantage point back onto the holding pens. As a race lasts 11-12 minutes, after the start, make your way to the seating area to watch the live telecast. All commentating/announcements are made in Arabic, but the race is simple enough to follow.

There are bathroom facilities on the premises, but no food or drinks being sold, so bring your own if you plan to stay a while. Also, keep in mind it is chilly in the desert in the morning, so a light jacket is recommended.

Located along Al Ain Road, past the Sevens Stadium, it is best to take your own car or ask your taxi to either wait for you, or return for you at a set time.

The race days and times vary, so check http://www.dubaicalendar.ae/ for the current listings.

We drove out to the camel racing track on the excellent road to Al Ain. It is near the Heritage Village which is a showcase of life in Dubai and another great place to visit. Open in the evenings during the season.
The camel racing is well organised and we were directed to the tourists grandstand and giving water, juice and a packed lunch, later we were given sandwiches and more water.
We watched the camels with their robot riders racing past accompanied by their owners in their big 4x4’s encouraging them on. There are about 50 camels in a race and we wandered down to the start line and onto the overhead walkway to see them off and to the finish to see the winners. As one race finishes a new race begins. Everywhere was neat, clean and pleasant. A fascinating visit. Can’t wait to go again. It is all free; parking, entry and food and drink.

I went to the Al Marmoon Heritage Festival to watch the camel racing. I didn't see much about the festival but the camel racing was great. It seems that they usually do races starting first thing in the morning 6:30ish and 2:00pm ish. I arrived around 7am and things were in full swing. Parking is free and there are stands set aside for tourists which have tv's showing the full race as you can't see much after the start as the track is so long. The track is HUGE, I think 5kms so you can really only see the beginning and the end. You can walk anywhere so it's great to see a few different angles. You can go over the pedestrian bridge where a lot of the media is to look straight down at the start and get a good angle of the 1-2 kms of the start of the track. You can stand by the track almost anywhere at the beginning and the end to see the camels. Also when you come in there are two huge lot areas with hundreds and hundreds of camels. The people there are very friendly (I was a solo women and didn't feel uncomfortable at any time) and you can take pictures. Also you can see the strange tradition of driving in your car along with the camels. I asked two gentlemen if I could join them in the car for one lap around. They said it's not for ladies. So I thought screw that and I got in my car. At first I was worried about what I had gotten into but then realized camels don't actually race that fast. I was able to take some video and pictures as I drove with the group.
I'd go in the morning as it was quite pleasant and not hot at all. The 2pm races would be another story. If you call for more details they put someone on who speaks english and is very helpful.

After living in the UAE for 5 years, I finally made it to the camel racetrack. And by golly am I glad I did! This place is all sorts of fun. You can watch the end of the races from the grandstand, but if you go up on the bridge you can see the start of the race, which we found to be much more exciting. Plus, on your way around to the bridge, you’ll go by the huge vacant lot where the camels wait with their handlers. The people are very friendly and even let us ride the camels. “Let” may not be the right choice of words as they actually “insisted” we ride a camel. (Hold on tight if you do!). Good luck finding out when the races are scheduled. That’s why it took us so long to come here; we could never find an accurate race schedule in English. If it’s out there, someone please post a link!

Oh.... by the way....it's totally Free!

Make sure you call ahead. We drove all the way out there after reviewing online the specific times they race and they decided not to race that day. We sat there for 30 minutes waiting along with many people in the baking sun. There was no communication whatsoever. Do not recommend!

This was the best thing we went to in our 6 days in Dubai. There was the festival on at the time so camel racing was on for 10 days ...but usually it's only on Saturday for a few months a year. We hired a taxi to take us put and the waited for us because it would be impossible to get back again. The racing was on from 6 to 9am and then aparently from 2pm. But as soon as the racing was over there was no one to be seen. They were very friendly offered us drinks and sandwiches. It cost 100dhr for taxi each way.
Make sure you show taxi where you want to go before you get in and they will use their GPS ...I don't think many have heard of it. Our taxi driver came up and enjoyed the races too.
