Taking a traditional abra across Dubai creek was so much fun! The ride is also very cheap and easy to navigate, even if you don't speak the language. The boats are lined up along the creek in front of the textile souk, you can't miss them. There is an RTA sign and a map, so make sure to look for that so you take the abra and not the more expensive water taxis. All you have to do is get in line, follow the crowds and climb on the next boat that pulls up to the dock. You pay the driver in cash, 1 AED per person. Exact change makes things easier.
The short ride allows for a change of perspective and a great view of all the watercraft crisscrossing the busy creek. Visiting during Covid we were the only tourists there and I really enjoyed feeling like a local.
The boat moves at a moderate pace. As long as you remain seated and watch your step getting on and off, we felt perfectly safe.
Very unique experience, highly recommend!

The Bur Dubai Abra Station is a popular attraction in Dubai and offers visitors a unique experience of traditional boat rides across the Dubai Creek. The station is located in the historical district of Bur Dubai, which adds to its charm.

The station is easily accessible by public transport, and the fares for the abra rides are relatively affordable. The boat rides offer stunning views of the city skyline, including iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Frame.

The station itself is clean, well-maintained, and efficient in terms of operations. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the waiting areas are comfortable.

Overall, the Bur Dubai Abra Station is a must-visit attraction for anyone looking to experience the traditional side of Dubai and enjoy a scenic boat ride across the Dubai Creek.

Getting to the Abra dock, you need to go down some shallow steps. Once down it is flat to the Abras which are at the same height as the dock so was easy to slide onto and off the boat. Comfortable seats and the driver was more than happy to accommodate my wheelchair on the boat (plenty of room). A very interesting cruise on Dubai Creek, headed for the Gold and Spices Souks. If you can manage the steps up and down to the docks, I highly recommend you try this mode of transport whilst in Dubai.

The Bur Dubai Abra experience is a must-try for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the traditional charm of Dubai. The ride on the traditional wooden boats across Dubai Creek is not only affordable but also offers a unique glimpse into the city’s heritage and culture. The views of the bustling creek, with its mix of old souks and modern buildings, are truly picturesque.

The abra service is well-organized, with frequent departures that ensure minimal waiting time. The simplicity of the ride adds to its authenticity, making it a refreshing break from Dubai’s otherwise modern attractions.

One suggestion for improvement would be to enhance safety measures, such as providing life jackets or clearer boarding instructions, especially for tourists unfamiliar with the process. Additionally, better signage leading to the abra stations could make the experience more seamless for first-time visitors.

Overall, the Bur Dubai Abra is an iconic and memorable way to experience the city’s rich history. It’s perfect for tourists and residents seeking an affordable and charming way to connect with Dubai’s past.

You've got to try the Abra ride over Dubai Creek! It's such an authentic experience, as it's the traditional way to cross from one side to the other. It only takes a few minutes and 1-4 Dirhams, but let me tell you, the views and the atmosphere are totally worth it. I highly recommend going during sunset—it's absolutely magical.

Shock, horror, the price has quadrupled since we last travelled on this iconic transport, back in the 80's when we paid 25fils !!!

Nothing has changed except they all seem to be registered with the RTA & have shade cloth as shade. Walked from the Shindagha Museum along the creek to take the abra from , what to us, is a new location. In the past it was a straight across trip, this one is slightly longer.
Make sure you have coins ready for when the pilot bangs the lid of his cash tray for fares.

Unlike most of the modern city of Dubai, riding an Abra across the Dubai Creek is like stepping back in time and experiencing the Dubai of old. The Abra is the traditional mode of transport in the region and is still used by locals for public transportation. However, for a tourist, it is a memorable experience and provides beautiful views along Dubai Creek. The cost is 1 Dirham, cash only. You can board at the Bur Dubai near the historic Al Fahidi neighborhood and cross to explore the authentic Gold and Spice Souks. There are several different Abra routes but you want to take the Diera Old Souk-Bur Dubai. You can find the pier by looking on googlemaps for this route,

The RTA, which takes care of the Dubai Metro, Tramway and Bus, is also incharge of the waterways.

The Abra is a quick and efficient way to cross the creek in under 2 mins. It is hassle free and the frequency is quite often, thereby not having to wait long before you could hop on to one and cross over.

This was the first attraction I visited after checking in at my hotel in Deira. The ride to the Bur Dubai was short, about 5-7 minutes, fare is just 1 AED or about 30: cents.

The process of loading the abra or boat is an organized process, As one boat becomes full, the staff directs the waiting passengers to the next available boat.

I enjoyed my ride and did some shopping at the Souq.
