- Haytham Abu FirasQatar14,378 contributionsCheap TransportSuch a beautiful and long way where you can ride a boat from a side to the other for a little amount. Usually visitors and residents use it for their transportation. We had a nice short trip by boat to the shore, a nice walk, and later ride back to Al Seef area. Many shops, kiosks and restaurants.Visited December 2022Written 20 December 2022
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands3,825 contributionsThe waterbus is one of the few remainders of the past in DubaiAbra is derived from the word 'abara' which means to cross. There are several points along Dubai creek also called Abra stations. One of them is the Bur Dubai Abra near Meena bazar and Ghubaiba. The most commonly used waterbus from here takes you to the Deira souk area, but there are other options further along the creek. The price is 1 dirham (one way). The waterbuses are mainly used by locals (i.e. immigrant workers) and have been doing their job for decades. Perhaps it is time to replace the very polluting diesel engines for a cleaner device.Visited December 2022Written 4 February 2023
- Alan MGympie, Australia846 contributionsRemains the best value in all UAEShock, horror, the price has quadrupled since we last travelled on this iconic transport, back in the 80's when we paid 25fils !!! Nothing has changed except they all seem to be registered with the RTA & have shade cloth as shade. Walked from the Shindagha Museum along the creek to take the abra from , what to us, is a new location. In the past it was a straight across trip, this one is slightly longer. Make sure you have coins ready for when the pilot bangs the lid of his cash tray for fares.Visited February 2023Written 8 February 2023
- rezz_shazSingapore, Singapore109 contributionsExperience the old ways...Book a private abra for 30 mins for 60 dirham. Was actually offered a 1hr tour for 120 dirham, but with a 4year old and the fact that we reach Bur Dubai in the afternoon...30mins is suffucient experience...at least it beat the 1 dirham cross the creek experience. Better to arrive in the morning.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 March 2023

It's such an authentic experience, as it's the traditional way to cross from one side to the other. It only takes a few minutes and 1-4 Dirhams, but let me tell you, the views and the atmosphere are totally worth it. I highly recommend going during sunset—it's absolutely magical.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 8 June 2023

However, for a tourist, it is a memorable experience and provides beautiful views along Dubai Creek. The cost is 1 Dirham, cash only. The ride to the Bur Dubai was short, about 5-7 minutes, fare is just 1 AED or about 30: cents. The process of loading the abra or boat is an organized process, As one boat becomes full, the staff directs the waiting passengers to the next available boat. I enjoyed my ride and did some shopping at the Souq.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 21 November 2023

The abra ride offers a captivating view of Dubai's skyline, allowing you to witness the contrast between the historic buildings of the old city and the modern skyscrapers of the downtown area. As the boat glides along the creek, you can observe the vibrant souks (markets) on either side, bustling with local vendors selling spices, textiles, and traditional crafts.

PROS
* This station is a transportation hub to cross the Dubai Creek
* Efficient convenient and frequent way to travel between Bur Dubai and Deira
* Useful to travel between and visit various souks
* Boats departing every three to five minutes- almost no waiting
* This is one of the classic activities to do in Dubai
* True Dubai experience- travel like a native resident
* Stopping and loading at this station are the incredible little motorized wooden boats that have a shade cover and up to 12 or fifteen fellow passengers sit on wooden benches
* The cost to depart from this station is one dirham, which is 30-35 US cents
CONS
* This station can be hard to find if arriving by car or on foot- easy to get lost
* Not easy to find car parking
* The line to board the abra boat can be confusing and crowded
* The neighborhoods and surrounding areas around this station are very authentic and therefore are less clean and less esthetic than modern Dubai
“ I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… because taking an abra journey crossing the Dubai Creek was one of the things that were on my list for my eight day visit.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Yes- the abra crossing is definitely worth one dirham.
ADVICES
For sure do it, and please look at my “helpful” photos.

Cheap and convenient boat rides to cross the creek. The boats are clean and well maintained. Life jackets are available for use in the unlikely event of a mishap.

Is it a long walk from gold souk to abra ??

Wellington, New Zealand6,688 contributions
Definitely not- literally a block or two from the dockside through the spice souks- really nice walk with lots to see and plenty of place to stop should you need to. Also as you’re walking between the shops in alley ways you are protected from the sun.

These Boats call Abra in Dubai. It's available behind Temple area in Bur Dubai or from Deira ( Another side of Bur Dubai) but not compatible for Wheel Chair. No problem for infant or toddlers.

Guarda, c'è un ristorante davanti.. attento che ci sono anche le barche taxi che sono notevolmente più economiche ma fanno solo da una sponda all'altra..
Prendi come punto di riferimento comunque il museo di Dubai

Can we take this boat with infant and toddlers?
Sahar Palmer
Dubai, United Arab Emirates24 contributions
Yes, you can take them; as long as you realize that the seats are like sunken benches. You step in and sit down. So you have to make sure you hold them down. The modern taxi is perhaps more convenient; but doesn't compare to the charms of the old Dow with sea breeazr brushing your face. I took my mum who's on a wheel chair with no problem. We folded the chair, and sat on the bench without any problems.
