About
Less than an hour away from Luang Prabang, Kuang Si Falls is known for its milky turquoise waters. There are multiple pools scattered throughout the area; the main pool has rope swings, and an overhanging tree limb from which you can jump into the water. There's also lookout point just a short hike away, which offers panoramic views of Lao’s countryside. The falls are easily accessible and are beautiful throughout the day but visit early for fewer crowds. There are changing facilities, and several eateries in the area where you can relax and take in the views. – Tripadvisor

    Fantastic natural area near town
So beautiful! - Visit the nearby Butterfly Sanctuary afterwards! The natural surroundings of the falls goes on and on - there are cafes inside the park and plenty of shade. Bring your swimsuit, but please respect local customs and leave your thong in your hotel room

    Amazing waterfall
This is a really beautiful waterfall. You pay for your tickets near the parking lot. Then you get on an electric cart that takes you further up the mountain for about five minutes. Then we walked up hill for about 1 kilometre to see the top falls. They are spectacular. The water in the pool below is a light turquoise. Once you have enjoyed that experience you can choose to climb higher or walk down to the lower falls. We opted for that. Once you get to the lower falls there is a large pool with slippery wooden steps into it. Make sure to go for a swim. The water is a little brisk but I found it refreshing.

    It is very beautiful
A magnificent site, a favorite for us! On the other hand, I advise you to go there when it opens at 8 a.m. We made the trip by scooter, it is accessible if you are careful. When we left around 10 a.m. we encountered entire groups and on the way back at least thirty vans going there.

    Beautiful waterfalls
Very picturesque from the bridge which is very easy to get to. Wonderful colours which complement its real beauty. I climbed the waterfalls and was very disappointed with the views at the top, however they are building a canopy walk on the top which will give far better view. The locals are really missing out on earning a few pounds. There are scooters that go up a path/road that leads right up to the top of the waterfalls, plenty of people who cannot climb would have paid good money for a lift to the top and back. Probably not best to go at weekends as it’s absolutely packed.

Don’t Let The Huge Crowds Stop You.
When I first pulled into the parking lot I couldn’t believe my eyes. Tour vans as far as the eye could see. Hundreds of people jockeying to get onto the shuttle to the falls. Despite the crowds no one was really swimming in the beautiful, crystal clear water. Only a handful. I stayed in the bottom pool and at times had the entire waterfall to myself. It was a great way to escape the heat. It was definitely a beautiful waterfall and refreshing.

An original approach to Kuang Si Falls....
We visited Kuang Si Falls after a trek of more than 4 hours. We left the Hmong village of Ban Long Lao (L19° 45′ 47″ north, 102° 02′ 07″ east) via an unmarked path which took us to the top of the falls. After a very long descent via a recently completed staircase, we arrived at the falls. This trek is suitable for anyone with good physical condition and good walking shoes. However, some passages are quite difficult. Take into account, however, very oppressive heat. On site, opportunities to eat, swim and visit the “Bear Rescue Center” (separate notices on these activities).

It was great, but from the center of Luang Prabong it’s a bit far by scooter (around 50 minutes). There were a lot of people (be careful in March with a lot of Korean tourists), but at the top of the waterfall (about 30 minutes of walking on a slope) it's super nice and there are very few people who are motivated to go up ! With the possibility of swimming! I recommend !!

    Blue lagoon in the river
Electric minibuses take you close then on foot for 500 meters and here are the waterfalls, very beautiful. A series of truly blue pools with fresh but pleasant water. The only downside: to put on your swimsuit there are unclean toilets. Along the way, an oasis where they take care of Laotian bears. Paid entry.

    Where selfies and serenity collide
Those turquoise pools were even more stunning in person. Word of warning: expect crowds wielding selfie sticks. However, we managed to snag a few Insta-worthy shots of our own, AND found a peaceful spot upstream for a little romance. Bonus: there are natural hot springs nearby, perfect for soothing those muscles after all the posing. Kuang Si Falls – it's where nature and narcissism meet in perfect harmony.

Go, swim and do the zip line adventure.
Go early and enjoy the park. It’s been very hot in Luang Prabang over 40 degrees everyday. We swam and really enjoyed the refreshing waterfalls. Beware of the nibbling fish, they are very brave and as soon as you stop moving they are nibbling on your feet - takes some getting used to. We were the first ever customers on the new zip line and highly recommend doing this. There are 5 stations and two repels.

These falls are absolutely stunning, as well as the falls within the park there is a bear rescue centre and for a small additional entrance fee a lovely butterfly park.

After paying the entrance fee you are taken, very efficiently, in an electric vehicle to the falls. Unfortunately the toilets are poor, dirty with no toilet paper etc . On route to the falls you pass the bear sanctuary where there is an information area explaining the work of the Free the Bears sanctuary along with option to give a donation or buy some items.

The falls have many levels each one more amazing than the last, they literally are breathtaking. There is an option to swim or bathe in these beautiful waters at various points in the basin waters. There are also nature trails you can walk.

A short ride on the way back you pass the butterfly farm a lovely oasis of tranquility. With your entrance fee you are given a small handbook telling how to follow the route and what to look for. Within the butterfly park is an enclosed area where the butterflies fly around,. There is a guide in the enclosure who gives a short talk on the different stages of the butterfly life cycle and shows some interesting specimens, including a challenge to spot the butterfly that is indistinguishable from a dead leaf! There is also a cafe where you can get drinks and light snacks.

We would highly recommend this visit and if you can leave plenty of time (3 to 4 hours )so that you really appreciate all that is on offer . There are also lots of stalls selling food, clothes and souvenirs scattered around the park,

It’s very beautiful with stunning green waters. Very cheap at only 60k kip (just a couple of pounds/Euros/dollars), it’s a very professional operation with dozens of electric buggies taking guests to and from the entrance included in the price. No long queues despite the hundreds of tourists. We took the left turning after the entrance to the jungle which means we walked direct to the main waterfall. You can turn right which takes you to the main waterfall via the smaller pools. It probably needs a one way system to avoid confusion and disruption. You can then make your way to the very top of the falls by either taking a jungle path to the right of the main waterfall, which is quite challenging but fun. Or by taking double-banister metal steps which seem a fairly recent investment, which are to the left of the main waterfall. These have “calories burned so far” signs placed intermittently, which is fun. We walked up the jungle path and down the steps. But do the jungle path at your own risk and only if it’s dry. At the top are stunning green lagoons you can swim in and more jungle trails. You can then also zip-line your way down if you wish, for additional fees, I think it was 25 dollars US. There are 5 lines. At the bottom is a cafe which was pretty good, we had chocolate croissant and coffee which was inexpensive and decent. There’s also a bear enclosure which is apparently for rescued bears. My only concern is for the future as the site was besieged with mass tourism. It didn’t massively diminish my experience and I’m glad I went and did the journey to the top, but the scale of tourism vs the size of the area will be damaging very quickly at this rate. Specifically the vast amount of Chinese coming in on package holidays literally being bused in.

I chose this trip as it has a morning departure, most of the tours from local offices leave after 11. It's quieter at the waterfall in the morning. The visit to Hmong village is a bit strange in my opinion, but it's a source of income for the people working there. We had 2 hrs at the waterfall, too short if you want to do the full hike (going up on the right-hand side of the waterfall is best) and swim. The guide was knowledgeable and it's value for money, especially if you travelling solo and don't ride a scooter.

The main feason why I included Laos in my 10-country itinerary travels is to see this waterfall. I only signed up for the Half-day tour but decided to extend it to full day after meeting my tour guide and other members of the tour.

The place was crowded with visitors, locals and foreigners alike ( visited on a Sunday, Tet Holiday). Along the way, we passed by the Bears Refuge Camp where we saw several black bears doing their things.

Waterfalls: There are severaral places with waterfalls where one can swim and have picnics. The best one is the one with a bridge that crosses the water. It has several high waterfalls, great background for photos!

Other attractions: I visited the Buddhist Temple located near the Waterfalls. Took pictures of the main Temple and other buildings next to it.

Local Vendors: Bought some foods from the vendors selling snacks and fruits. There are also restaurants selling grilled meats, etc.

Highly recommended to visit here!

I fell in love with this place, so picturesque! It’s big busy with people so wait time to go in might take around 30-45mins. Even at the waterfall so many people. Once you hike up to the main waterfall, cross the bridge and you would see path that leads up to the top of the waterfall. It’s a bit of a steep hike but was worth it. I got to see the views from the top and a small number of people hike to the very top and swim there. Definitely recommend that.

Beautiful place. I recommend coming in the morning. We arrived at 9am and it was almost empty. When we left at 11 the place got quite crowded. The electric cars that drove you up and down are included in the entry fee. I would recommend to spend about 2.5-3h there.

Set within a national park the falls and surrounding forest are a beautiful escape from Luang Prabang. The 1 hour drive is scenic through villages and rice fields and lots of little bridges over creeks. The road is not well kept and full of pot holes so a car or van is more comfortable. There is no need to take a tour, just get your hotel to organise their favourite driver and off you go. If you go in the morning you will miss the tour groups that arrive in the afternoon.

Once you pay the incredibly cheap entrance fee you are shuttled about 2km up the road in electric buggies to the forest. We walked straight up the road to the top viewing area and then made our way down along the forest trail that follows the falls. There are several pools that you can swim in, and one we had all to ourselves! The most popular pool was quite gravelly underneath but one of the others was full of sharp rocks which can’t be seen because of the cloudy water. The water was cool but very refreshing once you are in.

The bear sanctuary appeared to be under renovation when we visited but we were still able to view some bears in two of the enclosures.

We easily spent 3 hours at the falls including a visit to the Butterfly Sanctuary.

Our guide in Luang Prabang, Mr Khampom (Pom) sent us a welcome note and pictures of his family before we arrived, giving us an immediate connection to a family man. Having been a Buddhist monk for seven years, it was apt that Pom would prep us on the appropriate protocols of the traditional Tak Bat (alms-giving ceremony) and then give us insights into the impact of Buddhist monks teachings. Pom’s input deepened our observances of the significance of the incredibly beautiful Wat Visoun and Wat Xieng Thong Temples, Wat Aham shrine and the Royal Palace. The highlights of Luang Prabang were the Kuang Si Waterfalls, cruising on the Mekong River and participating in bamboo weaving and cooking classes with a local family. Our driver Sonesai (Sy) kept us comfortable and safe in the vehicle on the long road trips. The cosy atmosphere of the Le Sen Boutique Hotel meant we got to know the staff well, and Oum at the front desk was superb at recommending and booking excellent restaurants for our evening meals. Thank you Asia Highlights, Cristal & Theodore
