There are plenty of temples to visit in town. This is one of the best for sure. It can be full of tourists but is still worth the stop for sure. There are multiple buildings so don't miss one. No disappoint on a stop here.

An incredibly lovely plaza, just a short walk from the Mekong, gives one the feeling of walking into some kind of fairyland! I happened upon it by chance, in my wanderings and then realized that this was one of the places not to miss. Peace and gold and flowers!

Peaceful and picturesque. Every building that's been recently renovated is a pretty picture. Shuts at 4pm to a pleasant ringing of a gong.

Let's face it ones an get a bit templed out in Luang Prabang but this is one of the most interesting, a three tier temple of beautiful design with a monastery attached. The roof structure and internal Buddhas are worth seeing although I would have liked to give everywhere a good dust!

I have lost count of the number of Buddhist temples I have visited in South East Asia over the years. It must run into the hundreds, if not the thousands. But one sticks out as memorable, Wat Xieng Thong, in Luang Prabang, Laos, commonly called the Golden City Temple. It was built about 1559 by King Setthathirath and until the... More

Went back several times to try to find the ideal light to photograph this graceful roofline. It is a lovely temple complex (don't miss the golden boat fronted by 7 rampant naga heads stored in another lovely building on site) and worth the 20,000 kip admission.

Mixed feelings just because it is the main attraction in the town, certainly better than the museum. however, there are a number of quirks that make the trip worthwhile

Having arrived in LP the previous evening and slept off the jet lag, Wat Xieng Thong was the nearest temple complex to our hotel and thus represented our first introduction to the world of Laotian Buddhist architecture. What a brilliant introduction. The site includes a number of different sized and shaped buildings, including the Royal funeral chapel, with numerous funeral... More
