Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Library is doing fantastic work supporting education in rural Laos communities. Many people arrive in Luang Probang on the Mekong and their trips stop at villages on the way. You can see the need to support education and the Library is the way to do that. They understand the context and what schools need, and by making a donation or buying books for distribution is a positive way to support their work.

in the library building is the team for the project "books for children in rural areas.
one can buy 1-5 or more books, write a note in them and donate them to rural schools.
used (but still good) clothes can also be donated.
all is brought to the poorest in the far away rural regions

Husband and I knew about the work of this library to assist the poor children of Laos with education. Books are rare or non-existent in remote villages. When you see the poverty for yourself, you will understand. Poverty and a hand to mouth existence leaves little room for luxuries like books.
Everyone can help because even a very small donation adds to the total to purchase books. We raised a little over $AUS 1000 before we came to Luang Prabang for the purchase of much needed supplies. Every cent is given to the library and is accounted for if you use the United States charity "The Language Project" who take no administration fee. info@thelanguageproject.org
They also accept second hand clothing for distribution to the poor. We took over 40 kgs of second hand clothing, (babies, children's, women's and men's), baby blankets, shoes, pens, pencils with us from home for distribution.
If you contact the library before you arrive a trip with the Library Team on their book tuk tuk is possible. This was the best bit! We visited a school and the screaming of excited children who knew we were coming in advance was deafening. And wonderful.
The librarians engaged the children in a playground lesson on hygiene, handwashing and toothbrushing. Games were played with some equipment we took along, hoola hoops and balls. Then there was storytelling. The children love stories and books. We were able to buy three "book bags" of containing one hundred books. (Two still for delivery). Each child received an exercise book, pen, toothpaste, toothbrush and soap as well.
I highly recommend the work of the Luang Prabang Library to you.

This is a must visit for all of us travellers from the rich developed nations. For an infinitesimal fraction of what you spend on getting here, eating, buying presents that end up in charity shops when you get them home, you can actually do some good! The books for children is an excellent idea and has long term gains for all! But it does make you wonder about Americans perception of Laos. US embassy staff thoughtfully donate their cast off magazines so Laotians can now go to the Library toread Good Housekeeping and Crochet Monthly and learn how to cook a Thanksgiving Turkey, make home made Cranberry Juice and crochet a hat! A wonderful understanding of the needs of local people.

There is a lovely Aussie lady that is volunteering in this library and is making some very big changes with the locals. The library itself does a great job, but there is also a spot in there where you can either donate towards education for the local villages, or pay and choose yourself exactly what you would like to give a child, from books (to be shared with the whole school) through to school uniforms, a pushbike, and other choices. A very worthwhile practice which needs to be supported. Jump on board :) Such an easy way to help those less fortunate than us and know that 100% of your donation is being used positively :)

Reading some of the reviews in the past 10 or 15, it's pretty clear that a few people don't understand the significance of this place or even 'get it' in any semblance of a way. This place isn't a place to get the latest Cleo mag or update your Lonely Planet from the 2015 to the 2016 version, it's a brilliant organisation that helps to build literacy in isolated villages along the Mekong. These are kids who simply don't have the financial resources to purchases pens and paper, let alone books. Go easy on the Beer Laos for an evening and donate some good money to what is an incredibly good cause.

We brought pens, books and made $$ donations. They put the donated in a sort of traveling quilt with pockets, and when it is full, they take it to a remote village to help the children learn. The $$ is used to buy books to help educate the kids. So worthwhile.

Our three families with six kids all enjoyed a day trip on the floating library with the Library staff to visit a small village. We were able to give reading books, toothbrushes and other resources to the kids from the village. We exchanged songs and games that we are all still using back in Australia with our kids and their schoolfriends. Such a great experience.

This library accepts all donations to assist in bring books to the out of town schools. Every little donation helps. The photos are amazing of the team distributing the books - so many happy children. $2 is all it costs to buy a book to be donated. Great cause

Are there any specific type of books we could bring with us? We have about 20 - 30 kg spare in our luggage. We teach, so sometimes have books no longer needed.

I’m sure any books would be much appreciated. It’s a small library; they don’t have much stock in general. The books in English for the little ones would be a great learning opportunity; I saw books for them in Laotian.
