- George11 contributionsDelhi gate is one among the 12 gatesDelhi gate is opposite to Flea market (2nd hand market) in Lahore. There are also royal baths during the period of Mughal King Shah Jahan in 1635 built by the then governor of Punjab wazir Khan who also built a beautiful Wazir Khan Mosque in the centre of Walled City. Highly recommended!Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 November 2023

It is a beautiful structure, and even the outer walls have beautiful murals. Of course the nankhatai cookies at Khalifa bakery was the highlight of this walk.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 6 March 2024

This is one of the twelve gates into the walled old city. Though you cannot find all twelve now. This one is massive and seems to have been reconstructed at some point. Originally built by the mughal emperor Akbar.

This gate is called The Delhi gate because it used to face towards the Mughal Capital Delhi. I was really impressed by the conservation of this gate and the royal walkway which connects it with the fort. The best restoration projects lie beyond this gate like the Masjid Wazir Khan and the Shahi Hamam. I really enjoyed the old feel of this area as one could feel the ancient caravans and army contingents landing here, the courtiers moving here and the ladies looking at them from the wooden balconies. We also saw the Katri Dina Nath which is so narrow that only one person can pass through it. We had rice pudding with freshly baked naans. We saw several shrines, royal mansions and bazaars like Gur Mandi here. Overall this is the best area of Lahore Walled City and several old city tours start from the Delhi Gate Information center.

Beautifully restored Dehli gate is one of the 12 gates from walled city of Lahore. Full of hustle and bustle of locals and tourists. Local shopping market and huge spice market is right there. To go to the Shahi Hammams and Wazir Khan Mosque we have to walk through the Dehli gate. Most of the buildings are from Mughal era.

Delhi Gate is one of the 12 gates of old Lahore city and the one that straight leads to Wazir Khan Mosque ~~ so this is a 'twofer' if after working through this gorgeously restored gate (thank you the Aga Khan foundation!) Then a couple hundred meters will take you to the mosque and on the way your be tempted by the spices in open display. Because of these times and the scrutiny of TSA/customs it's best to avoid buying loose spices for fear that you'll attract the drug sniffing canines!
A visit to Lahore that does not include entry via the Delhi Gate is a wasted journey to Kipling's home.

Nothing special at all. Just another monument that will not make you feel satisfied. Too many scams around, people trying to sell you photos, people asking for money, offering hand made stuff and henna. Feels like bazaar rather than historical place.
